GW2 expansion had even less content than Morrowind when it came out. But Arenanet added to it over time (for free). I'm hoping ZOS does the same with Morrowind.

I've been thinking about it, but I really have no reason why to get Morrowind.

When GW2 HoT came out, in the pvp servers, everyone was doing these elite specializations, pretty much if you did not have GW2 HoT you were going to get yourself handed to someone with the expansion. Thats the main reason that got me ticked into buying it and guess what it worked.

When I think about ESO Morrowind... Just why buy it? Because its an expansion and its a typical new zones, new class, typical MMORPG expansion? I'm a HUGE Morrowind fan, but ESO Morrowind I know its not the same as Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind. It's already missing out on a lot of stuff the original Morrowind is known for.

Another reason about me anxious for GW2 HoT, is the PvE storylines, in GW2 they tied the living story with the expansion, it worked for me because I was anxious to continue with the story.
As far as ESO goes... It's like EQ style expansion, outta nowhere, no storyline to hype it up or anything, just a new zone outta nowhere, new issues arising outta nowhere. Literally the story doesnt build up to the new expansion.

Like watching movies, how you know theres going to be a sequel, thats how GW2 did it and got me to get GW2 HoT.
But ESO Morrowind, there really isnt any hype for me or incentives like elite specializations.

Just because you make ESO Morrowind look like the real Morrowind, thats not enough to get me into playing it. I already know, from all the let downs video game expansions give me, 20 years experience of these let downs, that the vibes in ESO Morrowind aint gonna be no where near the vibes in the traditional Morrowind.

It's more about making it resemble Morrowind. I cannot explain it, you have to have played it during the time to know the vibes I'm talking about.

HOT did not have a huge following like MW did so MW hands down
That don't mean ether was good for the game tho at lest in gw2 there was char progression and every one got new skills in MW every one got nerfed

and HOT is why i quit gw2 and been playing ESO since. HOT felt like it went against every thing gw2 was
i lasted 3 months after HOT i feel like i will still be playing eso for a long time will just be more careful in buying junk dlc disguised as a expansion at full price

Morrowind was supposed to be a continuation of the main story.

The Prophet's ghost shows up at the end of the Orsinium quest line and tells you that you'll be going to Morrowind next because some war between the Daedra is about to start.

But ZOS seems to have scrapped that in favour of letting new players start their adventure in Morrowind (they would be confused if this new zone was a continuation of the main story). I'm hoping they do eventually continue the main story. Expansions don't need to be stand-alone stories.

Of course, its an expansion, not a progression. Just like ESO Morrowind. Dark brotherhood, orisinium, thieves guild, those are all progressions. Unlike ESO, GW2 you get those progressions for free.

You are right with follower base with Morrowind. As a follower of Morrowind and having played video games 20 years... Looking at games like Dynasty Warriors, WWE, those expansions, new versions, dude gimme break, they all terrible I do not get the old vibes. I already know from years playing video games, ESO Morrowind isnt going to give me the Morrowind vibes I had back in the days. It's more than making it look like Morrowind, there's a ton of stuff missing, for example the creepy sound effects in house dagoth shrines being one of many of those vibes.

GW2 HoT, completely new, they had to build up to it. And to be quite frank. I enjoyed the GW2 build up to GW2 HoT. When I say build up, I mean in game they had a living story which continued to lead to the new book aka expansion of GW2, which is HoT.

ESO on the other hand, outta nowhere, we doing Morrowind. No buildup at all, no hype into the next book aka ESO Morrowind.

Thats why I ask you guys, this question who did it better, which game gave you stronger urge to go out and buy the expansion.

I aint asking which one is better, I'm asking which one made you really crave for it to come out, or made you see something in game that was totally cool and made you REALLY REALLY want to get the expansion.

This reminds me of EQ The Serpent Spine TSS,

in EQ defense, there was a gap between levels and too many zones for lowbies, so they make TSS zone which is the suppose to be the best zone for lowbies to get to higher level.

But in ESO case, there really isnt a level gap, the gap if any would be a CP gap. Unlike EQ, in ESO you can solo pretty much 95% content at any level so doesnt really make sense to have Morrowind as a starter zone.

It kind of defeats the original purpose of game too, alliance wars.

The only urge I had relating to HoT was the idea that I could use a greatbow on my Paladin.

However, I then remembered that my Paladin was around level 25 or so and I quit because the crafting was tedious and awful, meanwhile whenever I went outside I would get absolutely creamed by the event mobs for high level players in prep for the xpac. I no longer have GW2 installed.

Got both. My urge was about the same. Wasn't a great fan of HoT. Morrowind expansion is better, taking into account they're completely different games.

I own both but I play ESO almost every day.

I havent logged into Guild Wars 2 since about a month after HoT came out.
ANet ruined GW2 with some of their changes prior to the expac. HOT was the last straw for me and I left that game.

Frankly, I enjoyed playing thru HoT. It had a good story and was fun to reconnect with that story line... but its now old content and discounted in stores.. but.. massively more content than Morrowind..

I paid for Morrowind, because I am enjoying the ESO story line atm. I bought HoT when I was playing GW2. Right now, GW2 is doing a setup series of Living Stories that will lead to their next expansion, even if they are not publicly admitting it.

I will say, playing my mezmer in WvW invaded my dreams..calling me back. I cant see any of my ESO characters doing it.

After being a huge fan of gw1 in my college years, I was so excited for gw2 it was not even funny. Played about a year because there wasn't anything else that interested me at the time. Didn't even stick around for HoT. Just a bland, terrible mmorpg imo. Especially after what I thought was a fantastic gw1.

I own both. ESO is so huge with content and such an enjoyable game. Been playing 2 years on console and still haven't finished base game (and I own all dlc/Morrowind). I like to do most if not all quests, and GW2's lack of traditional questing just ticks me off.

Oh, and for the record, both ArenaNet and ZOS screwed their player base when it came to expansions. So maybe another possible poll answer is "NEITHER."

GW2 - B2P and all future content was meant to be free... they sold out and started selling expansions (rumor is #2 in the works).

ESO - B2P with cash-shop purchasable DLC (expansions) or included with ESO+ Membership. until morrowind came along, and they they changed the name to "chapters" and demanded real world money for new content. Screwing people (like me) buying Crowns during promotional sales in preparation of expanding ESO content. Greedy ***!!!

I quit GW2 when they added a new gear tier. A little after fractals of the mist was added. I did the math and figured it would take me 1 year 9 months to deck out all my characters in one set of the best gear. Why would I grind gear in a GW game. The first GW had 20 levels and one tier of gear. GW2: No healing class, no raids, no reason to grind gear. But people complained because you could grind gear in fractals which was a pos dungeon; so you had to grind gear everywhere. And then it was no longer a GW game. I never made it to HoT.

I didn't buy morrowind either but I have bought all the other ES titles from 3 onward plus a bunch of other stuff the publisher published because it is AAA product. Unless I'm dead or a vegetable I will most likely buy ES6.

I left ESO when the guild left ESO, everybody tried different games (It was One year after the HoT release)

HoT to me feels much richer like ESO morrowind so much achievement so much thing to do, more then only 50 hour like here now. (Solo content+ solo achievements). But soon I had to find out that nobody was playing HoT, there everything are group content, but there are no players on HoT zones, even when there was a daily achievements. Most of the day I w8ing to see someone there, everybody plays on the new Living Story zones

So I finally left and came back to ESO. HoT there like here Craglorn 0 player. if you want to do everything (no trials just quests and zone quests, etc), you need premade groups, difficult to find anybody, not like world bosses in Wrothgar or in Morrowind.

But Imo HoT much better! Why?
- There is a Champion system too I forgot what is it name, but it is horizontal progress, no need whole game balance time after time, and the feeling you can unlock everything but here 630/3600 CP not the same feeling. I like much better horizontal progress.
- New system: Gliding. Interesting part, that was amazing, so much fun with daily mini games on HoT zones.
And 2 very awesome system that ANet did, respect, congratz.
- Chat servers, you can read all message after a character change or zone change, you don't miss any message during loading screens.
- Update, patch system. OMG this is huge, never a maintenance, and so small downloads, just download that is changed, and you can play during downloads.

But in vain the best update system that I'd ever seen, if the game is not so fun as ESO

If we ask a question for ZoS, what is mini games in ESO, they say. Open chest with lockpick, thievery, deer hunt with bow, collect plants.

In Eso there is some interesting mini game quest, but that is only quests and cant repeat, and yes no reason to repeat.
For example the racing, touch the checkpoints.

TL;DR. IMO ESO much better then GW2 but ANet did some very good system, fun content.

No idea what HoT is, but GW2 was amazing for leveling up, crap after reaching max level. No progression whatsoever. Sure, they added a progression which gave a stat that was only useful inside an instance. That was crap.
Still, had so much fun leveling.

I left GW2 shortly after HOT came out. Imho it was not fun at all and didn't resemble the game i used to like. The best thing about HOT was: it send me back to ESO and since then I had the pleasure of getting Orsinium,Thieves Guild, DB and now Morrowind.
Since I always prefered the TES games anyways...I haven't looked back at GW2 at all. Even if some of my dear friends still hang onto it.

Same here. I pre-purchased it a year in advance. Was massively disappointed by the PvE side of things. PvP was also extremely bare-bones at launch. I only stuck around for about 3 months (PvE I gave up on after a few weeks). There was simply nothing to do in the overland areas. You had simple fetch/kill quests everywhere and "dynamic events" (which were anything but dynamic), but that was it. Even the world bosses were bland (just giant creatures that 300 people would zerg while standing in one spot). I tried to get back into it a few times over the years, but I just couldn't do it. It's such a boring game.

I find ESO to be much closer to GW1 than GW2 was.
