Why Morrowind Didn't Reignite My ESO Fire.

Ok, so this is gonna be quite a long one. I'm gonna talk about why Morrowind didn't really pull me back onto ESO as much as I wish it did. It's mainly just me typing as words come into my mind, I'm not sure if I have a specific purpose with this but I just thought I'd throw it out into the world.

Back in 2016 I was pretty burnt out on ESO, I logged in every few days, did a few writs and maybe a pledge or two but I didn't really ever get fully back into playing it properly, when One Tamriel was released it revitalized my time with the game due to the sheer amount of new Item Sets are build options, however, as there was nothing actually 'new' this didn't last long and I went back to not really playing in December 2016 but still logging at least once a week to play for a bit.

When ZOS announced Morrowind as an expansion to ESO I got quite excited, as I thought this would be the thing that draws me back into ESO, that makes me play for long periods of time and play the game fresh, trying out new content, especially with a new class to learn. The new class I was particularly happy about as leveling alts in ESO never gave you that feeling of 'New' when I made my first Templar last year for example I already knew what every ability and Morph did so there was no sense of 'Discovery' or intrigue when progressing as I already knew exactly what I wanted to do and what I needed to do it.

Anyway let's cut forward to the release of Morrowind, I didn't buy it on launch day as I was far too busy sorting out IRL stuff but a weekish after launch I bought it and went in. I loved (And still love) the new Music soundtracks added to the game and I think it's always great when ESO adds new Soundtracks as they are always lovely to listen to for the first time. I had played a small amount of PTS just testing random stuff but non of that ever really felt like playing the actual expansion so I was pretty hyped about this.

My first point after playing it for a while is the content. Morrowind does add a huge amount of new Questing and Story content. This for me, is kind of the main issue here. When I first bought ESO, I ended up falling in love with questing, the story and overland PvE content, I'll never forget how amazing it felt just to play though Khenarthi's roost with me first ever character. However, after leveling up 5 different Characters to max, completing Cadwell's Silver and Gold on one of two of them as well as a bunch of Overland content with all the others I almost can't bring myself to play standard Overland PvE.
This is one of my problems with Morrowind, yes it does technically add new content but none of it feels 'new' to me. I understand that many people think differently and love new Overland content and could play it forever but to me it just felt like more of the same, I never got a spark of interest in the story of Morrowind of the Side Quests simply because I just felt like I'd seen it all before. It's like feeding someone rice for a year then saying that next year you'll give them a new food, but instead of an actual new food it's just brown rice instead.

So this is my main issue with Morrowind and ESO as a whole at the moment as very little 'New' things were actually added so playing through content just felt stale. I mainly play PvP in ESO, it has and probably always will be my favourite part about the game and I loved the idea of structured small scale PvP. I always adored IC, or rather, the concept of IC as it is rather dead now so I thought I would get my teeth really stuck into BG's. Yes the new sets are cool and yes they are fun, but only for a while, the maps and game modes get samey quickly and you never really get that feeling that you get in Open World PvP in Cyrodiil.

This was a shame as BG's were one of the small things that I'd actually consider 'New' content. The other actual 'New' content was the new Trial, yes I will probably play the Trial, however I'm not one of those players who does Trials with Guilds to get High Scores or anything, I'll probably play it through once go 'That was cool' then never touch it again. Again, I understand many will not agree with me as lots of people like trials.
So, again the only real two pieces of 'New' content disappeared from my interest rather quickly and after playing the Warden for a bit I just found the class a bit dull. This meant that I was back to playing ESO even less than I was before the Expansion came out as there is nothing that is pulling me back into the game.

I desperately feel with upcoming Updates and Expansions the game needs actual 'New' things for players to do. Lots of people may enjoy endless new quests, dungeons and trials but if nothing fresh or new appears then it's just going to stay as 'Stale and Mouldy Online'.

A lot of cool, awesome things that people have suggested since launch could achieve this, even fun small minigames just to kill a bit of time, BG's partially achieve this. So I came up with a few suggestions that I would find enjoyable to play in ESO.
Minigames: A lot of people since launch have asked for stuff like this and I think it would be a really neat, cool addition to the game. Horse races are one of the things I tuink would be fun. Maybe pay a fee of gold to enter a 'Horse Race'. Have a prize of something if you win or something along those lines as well as my personal wish, to be able to bet on and spectate Player Horse Races. Perhaps when in the race have your ability bar have unique Horse abilities to make the race more interesting.
Brawls were another idea for a PvP minigame where you cannot make your build before going it, instead you get thrown into the arena with a bunch of other players with a random bar of Unique Brawl skills and Equipment.
Gambling in general would be nice, no, not Crown RnG crates, but actual in game gambling with Gold, betting on Snail Races or something like in the AD quest in Skywatch, or even better betting on player done activities like Brawls and Horse Races.
Jumping puzzles or something similar to what they have in GW 2 as something different and an alternative to go talk to someone, press E on something or kill some guys.
New Skill Lines: New World and Guild Skill Line containing useful active abilities, rather than just passives, would be a dream, new, awesome stuff to discover without having to grind out a new character to 50, count me in. Even things like Miscellaneous Skill Lines that may only contain passives but enhance current activities in the game such as a Fishing skill line, a Mounted Skill line, a Gathering skill line. As well as new major skill lines like the elusive 'Spell Crafting' that will probably never see the light of day. New weapon Skill Lines would also be dream come true.
New Crafting|: I adore crafting in ESO, it's one of my favourite parts of the game which could seem a little odd but I simply love it so much, it's satisfying, simple yet complex enough and in general just really nice to do and level up. A new Crafting Profession such as Jewelry-Crafting, Siege Engineering or something like that.
World Events: This has also been brought up by a lot of people in the past. GW 2 is a good example of this, having Dynamic World events where large groups of players have to team together to beat something in the World. Dark Anchors were meant to be kinda like this but, let's just face it Dark Anchors suck in comparison.
New Arena: The arena's in ESO are quite nice, I won't describe them as 'fun' because they're not (Well 1 of them isn't anyway) Like VMSA, after I got a weapon with a Trait that was good enough I was done with it, as rather than a fun activity it felt more like I was peeling my skin off with a Potato peeler. A new Arena would be awesome maybe 2 - 3 People and it scales depending how many you have where, instead of just a unique boss mechanic for each stage, have a stage or 2 that isn't combat related.
Guild Halls: Actual, large scale Guild Halls that can be upgraded and improved to have a bunch of stuff that Guild Members might require from Vendors, Brawling pits, Crafting Stations, Siege Ranges, Communal areas, Dorms, Fishing Pools, Hall's of Achievement (Maybe a place where each Guild Member has an area where they can put things on Display to show off their achievements or to just show what kind of person they are)

Anyway, I'm sure that list is long enough and others probably have 100+ ideas of things that could be added to the game.

Now here I'm not really sure how to add a conclusion onto all of this so I'll just sum up what I've said(TLDR). I couldn't really get pulled back into ESO with Morrowind, despite a rather long break from the game as the majority of things they added just didn't feel new or exciting to me, the amount of actual new content they added was pretty much just a New Trial and BG's which can get stale fast so there's nothing that makes me want to come back to the game when I'm not playing or continue playing when I am.

If anyone actually read all of that then wow, as now, when I look at it myself I can't imagine a single person actually reading all I wrote about.

The only part that caught my attention was at the beginning when I thought I read, "This is gonna be one long strap-on."

    Otherwise, TL;DR.

TL;DR. Burnt out on questing, BG maps and modes get "samey" fast , new trial looks cool but not a hardcore trial person.

I certainly didn't, sorry. Skipped to the spoilers, none of which particularly excited me at all, so it's a case of different strokes for different folks. Personally, I loathe crafting, but I can't see the harm in making it more interesting for those that like that kind of thing.

I agree with OP. After grinding several toons to VR16 (the Grind of all grinds), overland questing lost all luster completing Cadwell's Gold mutiple times. I'd love for a new zone to release like Craglorn (original Craglorn) where I actually need my weapons and gear equipped to fight monsters. That would add some gravity to whatever I'm fetching.
