What happened to my bow?

Since the patch, I can no longer draw and hold my bow, it fires automatically without me releasing it. I wondered if this was intentional or a bug. If intentional, I would ask WHY this was done? As someone who has some skill as an archer in reality, I can say with authority that it IS possible to draw a bow and hold it like that without firing it.

It's in the patch notes, it's intentional. It was meant to balance bows with other weapons by making them easier to fire.

Really? People found pressing a button and letting it go hard?

I hope they'll change it back, it just feels wrong now. Perhaps the better solution would have been to change other weapons to match the bow?

It just fires when you reach your maximum heavy attack.

Dont need your super cool awesome, non-virgin archery skills IRL to know that.

How long does it take IN GAME to draw a full heavy attack? And how good is your atomic clock? Okcool.

I found the old way so annoying that I never bothered with a bow build, may try it now.

It was probably ly to nerf ganking but they didn't want to say that so made it sounds like it helped "newer players". Because people don't know how to let go of buttons when they're new to a game? Yeh, I don't buy it either.

But I don't gank and hate that playstyle so kinda glad to be honest.

To the people who don't like this change: Would you rather have it turned back AND the ability to aim yourself?

With that, I mean aiming the way you did (/do) in Skyrim: if the enemy moves my arrow will still fly straight forward, it will not magically turn so that it will always hit my target.

At best, they should allow the same option for any other weapon too (though I'm not sure if it's possible for restoration staves). Would be funny to follow your friends with a fully charged 2H weapon all the time.

no folks did not find "pressing a button and letting it go hard?"

but some may have found doing so to the millisecond precision of every other weapon in the game to be difficult.

Bows now work for heavy like every other heavy attack in the game... auto-end and restart if you keep the button held down.

no guessing when the medium is done and the heavy is just wasting extra time.

Also, just like every weapon in the game you now cannot hold your attack poised for insta-heavy... swords cannot hold their's back, axes cannot hold theirs back, etc... neither can bow.

With the new changes to 70% damage for light/heavy atts on unbalanced targets, they had to nerf the gank combo: hvy bow att + surprise att becuz bow heavy hit last due to travel time.

I thought I did have to aim... Playing in 1st person, I had thought it would miss if the target moved. Here I had been lead firing all this time...

It should have been a toggle option.

Imo this was the worst change in the balance changes. Makes using a bow dull for me.

It's a minor thing, really, not game breaking. It's just a hit to immersiveness (at least for me), and a bit of a hit to utility. I used to be able to draw the bow, and then carefully move around, then release the heavy shot instantly, instead of having to take the time to draw it again.

    Not crucial, but disappointing.

Honestly, in another one of these threads, someone actually said they, "couldn't figure out how to use Bow heavy attack" so they wouldn't use the bow at all. So yeah, SOME PEOPLE could not figure out you had to 'let go' of the button... I still find this inconceivable, that there are people in this world who couldn't figure out a simple thing. I mean, ever heard of 'trial and error'? It's like people want things done FOR THEM these days, and have absolutely no imagination or desire to spend time figuring something out... and honestly, releasing the button when you're at full draw was so obvious... it boggles my mind that someone couldn't figure it out. Perhaps someone who lives under a rock and has never seen a real bow in action... might... just might have not found it obvious... maybe. :s

With staves at least you are still wasting time if you hold the button until it auto fires. Zos apparently made it so that it registers as a heavy attack like .2 seconds before it auto fires.

    @Morgha_Kul
While it's true for modern bows it's not possible for combat bows historically similar to those we see ingame.

Modern bows have a draw wieght of 30ish kg while medieval combat bows had a draw weight of up to ~60 kg depending on what historian you ask.

Oh, it is possible. I've drawn bows of all sorts, including historically accurate ones (as part of SCA). Even the Welsh Longbow. Sure, it takes quite a bit of strength, but that's a big bow. The ones we see in the game are shortbows, not longbows (at least the ones I've seen), so they would be easier.

In any case, if it's a matter of balance, then I can understand it. I don't know that I see a difference as far as balance goes, but at least I understand the reasoning.

Not a big issue, either way.
