Provisioning Recipes Locations

AngharadEld
Is there somewhere I haven't managed to find yet that has where provisioning recipe locations are listed by zone/pact? I know they are based on level and I know that information. I'm looking for something that tells me what zone/pact the recipe comes from. I have only a handful left to learn and finding them in the guild traders has become almost impossible. I would rather not farm the wrong level 20 zone if I can avoid it. I have gone to trusty Google several times and have not come up with anything that has the specific information I need.

Recipes are not dropped based on zone. They drop based on your provisioning rank. So a top rank provisioner would pick up only top rank 6 recipes. (Note: I noticed a huge block of lower level recipes in my inventory this week. It's possible the mechanic has shifted to drop a better variety of recipe levels in the world, but the patch notes don't mention this and I haven't confirmed yet).

So there's never been an ability to want "carrot stew" and go to a specific zone. If you're picking up recipes of that level, it's an RNG that's run in any container that contains recipes.

One strategy I've employed is to set alts at lower provisioning ranks and do daily writs for ranks I need recipes from. Their writ rewards one RNG recipe per day, so eventually this will fill in all the holes. It's not fast, but my crafter was about 90% educated in recipes, and in doing this for a month on two alts I've filled in at least a dozen recipes I was missing. So it works.

Those same alts could also then go on stealing expeditions to speed things up. When I level legerdemain by running the inn complex in orsinium or the ships in daggerfall, I pick up approx 150 items to fence. This always includes 2-5 recipes, which should proc at that toon's provision proficiency.

Since OT it is a mix of your provisioning level and zone. From the patch notes:
Updated the way Provisioning recipes drop as follows:
Recipes in Cyrodiil, the Imperial City, and Dungeons now drop based on your rank in the Recipe Improvement passive.
In other zones, recipes drop based on your passive rank 75% of the time, and the rest of the time drop the same way they dropped prior to One Tamriel, by zone.

Right...good point. OP...this is a clarification on the "zone" issue.

I took your post to be asking if a specific recipe dropped in a specific zone, like "do you need to go to Gold Coast to get Cyrodiilic cornbread?" I think I misunderstood, and if so my response was confusing.

Recipes drop based on your rank, and by the "rank" of the zone. Rank 1 drops in Auridon, Glenumbra and Stonefalls, rank two in the second zones, etc. Rank 6 moves to coldharbour, craglorn and DLCs.

I still find parking a provisioning writ alt in a lower zone to be the best way to get missing recipes. It feels like the rarer ones are more likely to drop from writs. But that could just be my laziness, lol.

    Sorry for the confused feedback.

One tip worthy of note is to return to your place of origin regularly and loot the entire house.

This is the house where you first found yourself after being rescued from the sea. There is one in each starting location. I usually find I get at least one decent recipe or blueprint every time I visit. But obviously it takes time for them to respawn so you can't keep popping in and out. And there is no criminal penalty for doing so.

Seems a bit ungrateful but it works.

I'm not sure if every recipe/blueprint drops in these starting zones, but I'm certainly getting Blues and the occasional Purple as my crafters improve their skills.

There may be some that are zone or event specific (e.g. Witchmothers Brew) , but sooner or later these will appear in a Guild Store and probably aren't that numerous.

Thank you for the answers and feedback. I've been level 50 provisioning for a while on one of my toons. I created others for the sole purpose of getting the recipes I'm missing. It's gotten to the point where I have so few left to learn that I can go through every guild trader and not find one that I don't already have.

I have about half of purple and most of gold recepies left to find. I do get a variety of differently ranked recipes drop in different zones while I quest, but never purple or gold. I got purple, I think once, from doing daily. I'm lvl 50, with I think 1-2 points into passives. So my question is: DO you get purple and gold recipes from writs only or do the actually drop in zones?
Thank you for your answers :).

I have received purple recipes in my Provisioner's Pack, but most have been found in random containers. From backpacks in a public dungeon to chests and drawers from breaking in to houses.

Astarana-All of the purple recipes that I have found outside of buying them from a guild trader have been in containers. I purchased all of the gold recipes, save for Aetherial Ambrosia, because I didn't have the patience to collect the fragments.

I get purple recipes sometimes on my level 50 provisioning writ rewards. But it seems they are never the ones needed for the master provisioning writs.
