They could do it, they can do it, they won't do it.

People will claim hackers or go play Skyrim or some other bs, but it's still possible, just not going to happen unfortunately.

Just pretend that players are just slightly dumber NPC's. You'll never know it was an MMO!

Well, as always, there's the "single player mode" called "close your chat box, and ignore those oddly-behaving NPCs around you." ;)

Sorry to necro, but is this a thing, yet?

And also: Some of you are making this WAY too complicated. You know how you spawn into a solo *instance* when you're playing the "Main Quest" storyline or other solo quests like Mages Guild quests? That's not complicated from a server/programming standpoint, and it's already in the code.

Implementing it isn't the problem, server load is. Each instance exists server side, and needs to spin up when generated, this isn't instantaneous. With small areas like the main quest, or dungeons, the process is fairly fast. But, when you're going into an entire zone? It can take awhile before the zone starts functioning normally. You can rarely encounter this on live right after the servers come back up, logging into a low population area like Wrothgar or Hew's Bane.

So, you're asking the server to allocate the same amount of attention as it would currently allocate for 50-100 players, and you're happy to put up with horrifically long load times. Not just when you enter a zone, but also every time you reenter it from a quest instance, or a delve.

I mean, really, how many 5+ minute load screens are you willing to tolerate in order to truly be alone?

I feel the same. Just try to ignore it best you can. The game, like the few good mmos out there, can still be enjoyed if you just have a little tolerance. If you have to, you can go full sociopath and just think of the other players as npcs.

They could do it, they can do it, they won't do it.

They won't because you don't want the results. Which may sound slightly arrogant.

I'm not exactly sure of all the consequences for solo instancing every zone would do to the game, but I'm pretty sure the results would not be pretty.

I know it wouldn't be, just, "ESO, but without other players." They're actually kinda vital to keeping some of the systems running, and things just would not function properly, if they weren't there.

Oh, there is one other issue... wandering around empty zones is weirdly depressing. I mean, I spend a fair amount of time on the PTS at off times (between testing phases, when the builds are matched), testing builds and experimenting with stuff. When Wayrest is empty, it's freakin' depressing, and more than a little creepy.

All of the people who are supposed to be there may be distracting, but when they're not there, something is deeply wrong with the world. It's always a relief to come back to live, where there's actual people around.
