Where are the dwarves? I've looked everywhere!

I'm a HUGE FAN of Dwarves in World of Warcraft and Warhammer/Total War Warhammer.....and when I heard that Dwarves were coming to Elder Scrolls Online I got so excited! I quickly logged in to find my stunted friends but they were nowhere to be found. I saw Dwarven buildings and the ESO Store even had a Dwarven mount in it! But where were all the Dwarves? If you do not know what a Dwarf looks like....he is about 4 feet in height, he has a long glorious beards, lives in the mountains, can drink anyone under the table, has a hardy deep chuckle, and is in most cases is a fearless warrior. If you find one please let me know.

I'm no lore expert but aren't they extinct?

You can find their legacy in the multiple dwemer ruins and in their constructs, motifs, and architecture scattered around Tamriel.

These are the Dwemer to which you refer yes?

They were never dwarves as in the bearded ladies of Middle Earth no (one of whom Khajiit may have been in a previous life ...). They only appeared smaller because they were being written about by some very tall people.

You see this is why this one she is not so clever at the lore and stuff.

No no look, half the people in TES are elves.

    Orcs are elves.
    Dwarves are elves.
    Cats are elves.
There are humans that are half-elves.
    Even elves are elves.

    (Also, they are gone)
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

No, they are not extinct. We know for a fact that at least one still lives (probably more at this point) because there was one in TES III. Popular theory is that they were zero summened, which means the race would no longer have existed, ever. (It's complicated) Basically they tried to do what the Tri-bunal did and failed. Probably a faction or clan of Dwemer desided not to go along with the attempted ascension, so they are still out there. The still living ones are probably in a different part of the world, there is still a very large island, larger than tamier that has not be "discovered" and there are still places in tamiel that we have not been.

Where did you hear such a thing?

Dwarves have been extinct in Elder Scrolls for a very long time. They were also nothing like Tolkien/WoW Dwarves, except for living underground perhaps.

The only reason Yagrum Bagarn didn't get whisked off to who knows where with his people, is because he was in an "Outer Realm" and wasn't affected. Sure, there could've been more in similar situations, but he's the only known case.

The "dwarves" (aka Dwemer) aren't confirmed to be extinct. They're just gone - disappeared. There's leading theories but I do not believe any story as to how it happened has been confirmed as What Actually Happened (TM).

As others have said, they aren't Dwarves as you know them to be from Tolkien and other common fantasy works. Not short, beer-loving, miners and weaponsmiths that you're used to. They're supposedly more similar to humans in size, a subsect of Elves nicknamed Deep Elves, but are still usually bearded.

There's plenty of ruins, constructs, etc, about the world that you get to check out and they're more on the steampunk feel side of things. But so far in ESO, that's about as close as you're going to get.

The Dwemer (also referred to as the Dwarves, Deep-Elves, Deep Folk, Deep Ones, or the People of the Deep), were an ancient "Lost Race" of Mer who were remnants of the early Aldmer, and lived primarily in the region of Dwemereth.

Sorry, no dwarfs, just elves with a fancy name.
