Morrowind locked if starting game directly from launcher.exe

Bought Morrowind via Steam. Played there and unlocked all areas, etc., all while starting launcher via Steam interface. IF the game is started manually, bypassing Steam, it refuses to accept Morrowind is unlocked already, spam an "Upgrade now" message at start screen, states IF you already have it, you'll need to adjust settings in-game. However, once in game, Morrowind was already checked as being active in the Stories menu. BUT, ALL but roughly 2 fast travel stations are greyed out in Morrowind. Hovering the cursor over them has an "Upgrade" message despite the fact they are already unlocked. I didn't risk fast-traveling to the couple shrines that were still white.

Only reason I even bothered with this was because the game keeps crashing, which seems to be a server issue. Other posts suggested it was a Steam issue and bypassing Steam let you back in, which seems true, but I'm not interested in loosing items, quests, etc. if the game is bugged atm.

Same with me. I'm thinking about reinstalling later on tonight. Let me know if you've solved the problem.

Same here. Very annoying, given I don't like playing with Steam being on. I always bypassed it, using the launcher merely for patch updates.
When you buy crowns through Steam, it only takes one time to start the game with the launcher to have those crowns register in game, and then - when you bypass Steam altogether - those crowns never go anywhere.
I can't understand why it should be different with Morrowind. Steam should have registered my upgrade in the game once and for all. My Steam and game accounts are connected, so I don't see how this is a problem.
    It needs to be fixed.

    What Kainarel said.

I was hoping that now Morrowind has been officially released, we would be able to go back to logging in through the game's own launcher as the Steam one tends to put extra strain on my internet connection.

    Please, please fix it.

I sent a ticket, and none of the replies I've gotten answer the simple question of whether they will fix it. They say "at this time" we have to use the launcher, but fail to explain if that "at this time" means temporarily.
When we buy the crowns through Steam, we start the game with launcher once and the crowns register in game, and after that, we DON'T HAVE TO use the launcher - the crowns never disappear.
Why is it not the same way with Morrowind upgrade?
This needs to be fixed. I don't want to play with Steam that gives me lag if it's running during my gaming.

All of the above. The lag is horrendous played through the steam launcher. I tried to do dolmens in Alik'r desert last night and was dumped from the game twice after enduring a series of freeze movements and huge delays.

Yes, the lag is real with Steam. It needs to be fixed.

SOL gentleman. I contacted support about this issue and they say "working as intended". You have 3 choices:

1.) Play through steam and deal with the frame rate drop

2.) Don't play morrowind and write your purchase off as a donation on your taxes

    3.) Buy it again

Beyond ridiculous, all because we Steam purchasers don't have a consolidated ESO account. Only game I know of that handles accounts this way, and forces me to launch it via Steam. Super frustrating, super annoying, super laggy.

Well, my Steam account is connected to ESO. Plus, when we purchase crowns through steam, it takes one time to start the game with the launcher for those crowns to register in game, and they stay there if I restart the game without steam. Same with updates and patches - as soon as I update it through the launcher, I can turn it off and play without Steam.
So how is it that Morrowind is different? Why is it different if we paid for it the same and it has to register and stay put, launcher or no launcher?
