Argonian Names .... Based on What?

I mean, what ethnicity or language in real life, are they based on? We have Nordic/Norse for the Nords.... etc. Are Argonians... Galic, Greek, Arabic, etc.... what are they? Or is it purely a made up language name?

✭✭Not sure about the names, though I do like the descriptive names they tend to adopt for provinces beyond their own. I've got an Argonian called "Hunts-With-Hounds" in each single player TES game, usually a werewolf, always with wolf/dog companions.
I think they were originally supposed to be a fairly unique race, although adopting a fantasy lizard-man trope they weren't falling back on stereotypical Mayan/Aztec visual designs but pursuing their own route with weird tree architecture and the influence of the Hist. It's only with ESO that we see this push towards Mayan/Aztec design, basically copy/pasting other lizard-man designs from similar fantasy worlds like Warhammer. It's a shame, but I can't blame them. They had to create environments, architecture, and culture for all nine provinces in Tamriel in a single game. Not surprising they phoned it in on some of the races and locations (Valenwood environment and Khajiit race got shafted in this game too).0 -

✭Argonians tend to adapt the Verbs-Plus-Words naming style to appeal to outsiders, but they are also assumed to have names in their native tongue that may or may not carry the meaning their Cyrodiilic name implies, so it's up to you which style you want to use.
