Bought bag upgrade in Crown Store, and NPC upgrade price doubled without having bought from her.

Thinking it was about time to upgrade my bag space, I checked the ingame bag-upgrade NPC Nurisipa in Daggerfall and noted that it would be 5900g for ten spaces. So I declined that, and checked out the bag upgrade in the Crown Store. That was 1000 crowns for ten spaces, so I purchased it. Then I thought I'd buy another ten spaces, so I went back to Nurisipa and found that since I had bought the Crown Store upgrade, the NPC's price had promptly increased to 11,000g.

@ZOS Surely this can't be right. The NPC's price should have stayed at 5900 as I didn't buy that upgrade from her!

No, it is correct. The price for bag upgrades increases as you increase your bag slots. Same for bank storage as well. If you had bought 10 slots for 5900 gold, the next 10 would still cost you 11000 gold.

I hate to say it, but it would have been cheaper to use gold for early bag upgrades and then consider crowns when the bag upgrades get really high.

It doesn't matter where you get the upgrade from, the next 10 will increase in gold. The same for bank space. The only thing that stays the same is the various riding lessons, costing 250g each.

Yes, that's what I was afraid might have been the reason. :/

    Bad game design, ZOS.

It may seem bad, but it does keep things equal for everyone.

not really bad game design... was pretty obvious the system would work like this I thought?

Well that's what I had thought, but I refused to pay crowns to get something I could get (someday) with ingame gold.

But that's probably why I have NO bag or bank space maxxed out yet.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Personally, I wouldn't say that the way it works is "obviously" predictable to anyone in advance.

We can buy as many 10-unit bag space increases as we want at the same Crown Price for each purchase (until the bag space maximum is reached on the character in play for which you buy them). So there's no particular reason to believe that using Crowns to buy bag space would increase the cost in GP from a vendor, if only because it doesn't increase the cost in Crowns as well.

When a player buys a bag capacity upgrade for GP, they are not informed that the price will increase for the next upgrade. There is no reason to believe at the time that the next increase will cost more, and the player finds that out by experience (if not by reading a guide or forum post about it). ZOS simply chose to design it that way. The upgrade scale was implemented long before ZOS introduced the Crown Store (a fact of which a beginning player might not be aware).

By the way, the bag 10-space upgrades and bank 10-space upgrades, respectively, cost 500 Crowns each until just before Patch 3.0.5 Morrowind was released. ZOS has doubled their price to 1000 Crowns. However, ZOS also doubled existing Bank Space Storage (and the maximum that they can buy) for ESO Plus players. So I currently have 480 storage spaces for my in-game Bank Storage, and the "unlimited" storage capacity of the Crafting Bag is available in common on each character, too.

As far as I know, the character bag limit remains at 200 spaces. I don't know whether GP prices for Bag Vendor upgrades have increased recently, regardless.

That is no excuse for doubling bag and bank space upgrade costs in crowns. That space increase is most likely to be bought by those who don't subscribe for one, and the space upgrade itself is not giving double space if eso plus lapses.

It's just more greed. Everything has gotten way out of hand with prices to the point that if it continues to climb for infinitely replicating digital goods then I'm just going to continue to vote with my wallet and not pay them another dime no matter how much I want something, and I actually stupidly bought the 4000 crown Dro-m'athra senche that started us down this slippery slope apparently.
No digital house is worth 15000 crowns which is $120, especially when it doesn't have nearly the customization of even older MMOs like City of Heroes base building or the options of Everquest and Everquest 2 and all the original TES games. I would gladly pay if they had given us our own system for making custom shaped buildings and just a blank canvas space to do it in. And don't say they couldn't do it and have the house be visible in the world when anything built outside never shows from outside the house anyway now and they could have gotten around that but giving us islands away from any land with slaughterfish to keep away viewers or pocket realms in oblivion or aetherius or underground caves or mini home-in-a-bottle style places like the clockwork city.

They're not hurting for money last I heard, but they sure as hell charge like they expect the game to die tomorrow. Maybe they know something we don't and we'll never actually get the whole map, let alone another chapter? Maybe Morrowind was a last ditch effort to make quick cash to keep the game afloat hopefully until the next chapter and just limp along on chapter purchases.
