Battleground Prep Question

So I'm on PS4. I've always liked PvP and am looking forward to battlegrounds. I main a magsorc and am on a stamblade otherwise. I also like the idea of the play style of a stamblade for PvP. So on my stamblade I decided to gear in medium impen and a proc-heavy build (viper/red mountain/selene). Then I though I'd try out dueling.

The first person that challenged me was of course a petsorc with both pets out. He backed away and literally burst me down before I hit him even once. Before I could even gap close. Sad, I know (git gud, etc.). So a few questions heading into battlegrounds:

1. Is medium armor even going to be viable in battlegrounds? I hate having to be forced into heavy armor, but it's better than getting lit up. Also, heavy on a stamblade is probably pointless as well.

2. Should I just resign to the fact that I need to use my magsorc? I'm just wondering if ranged is simply better than close combat anyway for battlegrounds.

3. Are there any good stamblade or magsorc builds out there yet? Again, wondering if I'm going to have to go heavy armor.

If consoles get the same patch as pc currently has, play whatever style you like, it doesn't matter at all. Curently on pc, battlegrounds end up being 2v2v4, groups vs pugs, extreme good pvp players vs level 50- players. This all causes battlegrounds to be won or lost by the group you get, not your personal skills.
