Atheric Cipher drops are a Myth.

I've given up on getting the cipher - 40+ hours a week every week and never seem it. Mind you, as a crafter who does a lot of harvesting, I have also only found 4 dusts as well.

I don't even want it to make profit, I want it so I can learn it and will probably never use it.

You can't farm it. Just play the game as you normally would. You'll either get one or you won't.

Alternatively, farm something else that will give you a chance cipher drop. For instance, many enemies have a chance to drop a trophy, collect all the trophies in a category and get an achievement. So just head to an area with a plan to get a trophy and who knows, you might get that cipher instead!

I was walking in Greenshade one day, been playing the game for a month or four or five at that time, when I had to kill an Imp.
From the corner of my eye I saw a yellow item drop. It was an aetheric cipher.
I had to look it up to find out it could be worth some serious in-game money. I sold it through a guild-store for 3.5M gold.

A guild-member saw me do that and he thought he had something like that in his inventory from way back. It was an aetheric cipher too! He asked me to sell it for him, since he was no trader, so I sold that via chat for 3.75M gold.

Later this same guild-member said he bought another Aetheric Cipher from someone through chat for 2M gold. I managed to sell this cipher for 3M gold through another guild-store.

    Good times.

And that's the real problem. The Cipher is so rare and the dust is so rare that, to make it profitable for you, you have to charge much that most anyone who would actually need it can't affford it. It's why I haven't bothered.

Exactly, if folks want the recipe to make mega bucks from selling the pots then stick to selling psijic, for me it's not even an issue of wanting to sell the Mythic drink, I bought the Cipher as I'm a realist and a recipe collector, the collector in my says "I have to get it" and the realist in me says "If I see it for sale and I have the gold then I will buy it as waiting for a loot drop is little more than a zero chance".

The guilds that I'm part of know i have the recipe and most guildies are aware that i will craft it for them at no charge whatsoever as long as they provide the mats (1x psijic pot + 1x aetheric dust), but with the dust listed at wildly ranging prices (on xboxEU 60k-120k) it just puts them off.

Since Morrowind early acess indeed, i don't buy any, since they went from 17-20k up to 33k+, but i bought tons of them to lvl CPs the few weeks before Homestead realease, and a lot, but now the prices is a bit absurd, specialy since Skyreach XP got a bit nerfed, not many people can afford 33k for 30 minute gameplay (unless they lvled up provisionning gastronomy passif, but not many think about doing it before doing leveling on their toon) i bought one the other day because i was fed up in Skyreach to power lvl my few remaining lvl to get 50 with a friend, but that's it. No way people not power leveling will afford a 33k gold for an xp potions to quest around.

yeah I'm aware of that, as i say in my 2nd post in this thread, its a pointless exercise trying to make gold out of the pots and its just as pointless offering to craft it for free (which i have done to all my guildies) if people provide their own mats as the price of the dust alone puts them off.. :)

Those damned bloodfiends, if they aint infecting you with vampirism then they go around dying on you and dropping Cipher..lol.

The ingredient is found when collecting nodes, ore, flowers etc, personally speaking i have harvested 10's of thousands and only had two drop myself and no you can get it without having learned the recipe..

Yeah, I pulled one about ten minutes into farming the first day and thought "This is awesome, I'm going to get a truckload of these!" I've gotten exactly one since then. Wasn't even farming, just stopped to grab a ruby ash nearby hoping for some heartwood. XD

Are we 100% sure the one from writ vouchers is different to the drop one? Do they have different names then?

I thought only the crown one was 150%, and the drop aetherial was the same as the voucher aetherial.

Anyone got the sources of that from.patch notes etc they must have been added different times?

(Xbox EU and i have writ vouchers to spare so trying to make the biggest buck between that recipe and or Ebony motif!)

    They are 100% different.
The writ one is weaker (+100% instead of 150%), it has a different name and uses a different ingredient (diminished aetherial dust instead of normal aetherial dust).

And the diminished dust is only found at the master writ vendor as well. You can get the lesser cipher and dust there, or keep farming for the superior drop cipher and dust.
Been there, got the Molag Bal polymorph.

It took me two and a half years to get my first impetial motif drop, then just a month later i had another.

    Be patient, dont be entitled.

I got my first 2 imperial motifs in my first 2 months of play, then haven't seen another one since, a year later.

As to the cipher...I got one a couple months ago, didn't even notice til I got to the bank, so I don't know the source. It's the dust that I've never seen yet, and I do a relative amount of mat farming, in order to do writs on all 12, make that 14, chars daily.

You can buy it but you won't get any profit. Margin profit from one drink sale is about 10-15k gold, so it's not worth buying cipher/recipe.
