No. So many players come into the game because there's rich solo pve content that the game would have died without the new blood.

Also, most players eventually get bored of pvp and take a break...or nerfs send them away for awhile...or performance goes to crap and they take a break. It's nice to have both to choose from.

I believe ZOS' own data proves otherwise... PvP is a niche system and the overwhelming majority of gamers DO NOT enjoy PvP. If this were such a big market, do you not think there would be a huge PvP game out there? Also consider the majority of ESO players are Elder Scrolls fans who want PvE content... why do you think ZOS puts so little effort into PvP and so much effort into PvE? It's because they see the numbers, they see who is playing what, and can tell who does PvE only, who does a mix, and who are PvP only. They devote their max resources to their majority player base, which again, is why you see ESO is PvE centric.

Nope, I don't get where PvP players think everyone wants PvP games only. I do both in ESO, but in general I prefer PvE, and in other games I don't PvP at all. There are diverse players with different interests, and ESO has something for everyone. If it was a PvP game only, it would not be successful. This game heavily draws from the solo game series based on its name which is an RPG game, not PvP.

Here's the thing about this... PvE is what sets up the story, creates the personalities, establishes the people, places and things which create the lore. That is, the PvE aspects are the games identity. Without those things; those stories and NPCs, and individual adventure, it's just a generic fantasy themed version of Planetside.

That's not to say that wouldn't be a fun game. It could be great.
But what it wouldn't be is Elder Scrolls.

I mean, you could slap "Elder Scrolls" on the label to try and milk a few bucks off the name, but what you'd get wouldn't be an Elder Scrolls game.

It may have started as a troll thread, but I think it's just as valid a question as the other thread.

I mean, neither one is going to happen, so it's all just theory-craft anyway.

Haha, nice  xD Anyway, on the serious side, if we take a look at most played games on stream, all of them are PvP games. Same thing happens for twitch, all the most viewed games are PvP games. The reason that PvP community is so small right now is because most of PvPers have left, because PvP hasn't really been taken care of, while PvE has all the special treatments. At the start of the game, 5 campaigns are always pop-locked. And the campaigned used to host thousands of players, not like what they are right now.

TES fans, while there are many of them, would have left once they complete all the quests, like how people handle TES single player games: do all the quests, then stop playing and move to other games. In no shape and form can ZoS throw at us an sufficient amount of content to keep people playing constantly for years. Something has to keep players playing, so they can generate money from sub and crownstore, so that they can keep developing more content. Guess what, the most efficient way of keeping players is end-game PvP and end-game PvE. Well, and roleplaying, that too. I am a TES fan, if it was all about questing, I would certainly buy the game, play through, and move back to my regular competitive games. While I would speak very highly of the game, suggest it to friends, I certainly wouldn't sub, there's just no point of subbing if I don't play the game for a long time. You simply can't rely on TES fans to fuel the game in a long term. Without money from sub and the crownstore, no money would be generated, as a result, no more content would be made, and the game would be dead. With that said, without the outstanding questing, I wouldn't play the game in the first place, there are many better competitive games out there. So, the TES questing is what needed to make me buy the game, and end-game PvE/PvP is what needed to keep my playing for a long time.

You mean without 4 years of MMO baggage, a series of terrible "first" impressions, and a persistent, irreconcilable identity crisis chock full of self-contradictory goals and design decisions?

    Then yes.

It also would have been viable as a true sandbox i.e. 4-player Skyrim... or as a Call of Duty style FPS. It also would have been viable as as a MOBA or as a flying dogfight style game where everyone rides dragons or even viable as a WoW clone.

...if it had a different Dev team.
Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

I have long wished ZOS would spin off AvA as its own game. I think it could be more successful without the burden of the *boring* PVE grinding of ESO.
