Mount Speed

Personally I feel that high riding speeds look absolutely ridiculous on walking mounts and doesn't actually make much sense to walk as fast as a regular mount runs.

When you need to travel to places yourself (no set wayshrines or still to far away), it's good to have a fast mount. Or when you're travelling in Cyrodiil. And for stamina users, this is important. I don't want to waste my main resource on sprinting everywhere, while my horse can do so for longer and sprint faster.

I just mean the actual walk function, your running around everywhere wouldn't be effected, sprinting or not.

And sacrifice a 5th trait on a damage or sustain set? Might as well just call it quits.

Even on a lowbie with a mount not even +20 I can get from one keep to the other (with rapids) from when it's burst to before they have taken the keep. Sprinting some as well but don't have much stam on the horse.

RPer here. I definitely get where you're coming from about being bugged by lack of realism, but I've never really noticed this particular bugbear when walking my max-speed mounts. Possibly because I usually walk my mounts after some period of running (when entering a town, etc.), so, comparatively, it still seems significantly slower than a run, even if it's technically about as fast as a mount at base speed.

It might also depend on the mount. Some of them have animations that are not at all charitable when sped up (those poor bear riders XD ), both in walking or running.

What's a walking mount? Like two-legged ones like guars and kagouti? Different speeds depending on type of mount would be a terrible idea.

Yeah, what game would release with a system like that? ;)

(The joke is that at launch ESO mounts had varying speeds with more expensive mounts being faster, and mount training was specific to the mount, not the rider. They changed it after release to the current system.)

Players and mounts have "walking" animations. On PC, this can be a bit obscure, since the "toggle walk/run" button may not be mapped to a usable button, so you may not have ever used it before. "Walking a mount" just means you're riding the mount at walking speeds.

Scamps have taken you over! D':
But really, (unless you don't want it ruined for yourself) just watch your mount walk with free cam and see how ridiculous it is. The only one that looks okay is the Elk mount. Even running the horse looks bad because it looks like its just trotting around moved on an invisible stick going too fast, it should be "straining" more. But even that I wouldn't care so much if just the walking were at the original speed.

Ah, that explains it. I thought by "walk" he just meant when you didn't hold down the sprint key. Pretty sure most PC players (or "non-controller players") have no idea about this.

I get the joke, I've been playing since beta, and I hated it then XD I was very glad when riding skill became a character attribute rather than a mount attribute.

I also know that you can walk instead of run, but I would not use the OP's language to describe this.

Anyway, what the OP actually means having been very helpfully explained to me, I decided to check out mounted "walk" speed on my character with maxed riding skills, and I don't see any problem with it? I don't know anything about real horseback riding, but it looks like a "trot" to me. It's still slower than on-foot jogging, which feels extremely appropriate.

Perhaps at certain ranges it looks more ridiculous than others, but I particularly would appreciate having the ability to actually "walk" with my mount, not "slow trot". How is your senche suppose to be taken seriously if its prancing around everywhere? Cats only use speed to catch their prey. Even if you could toggle the speed would be something.

I didn't think to try on a cat, but having just done so, it does look a bit silly. That said, the kind of change you're asking for is not worth the engineering it would require to implement.

No one ever thinks a toggle would be problematic, but it almost always is.

By "Walking" mount do you mena guar? the source of the problem is: such animals tend to jump to speed up like a kangoroo in nature, however it's designed to run with two legs, that's the source of the weirdness.

That's what I thought at first too, but no, what OP means is any mount but at walking speed rather than the normal jog.
