Here's the Reasoning:
Abilities like Caltrops, Volley, and Wall of elements all deal damage per tick of time, and enemies are damaged by being in them, the player is not actively doing anything. So, you could assume that these are considered DoTs, which in the game, they are considered so (cept the tooltips are bugged right now with Master-at-arms).
However, unlike what is mentioned in the
Support Page, these DoTs are represented by a white combat text color rather than the Orange combat text color.
My suggestion is:
Any Damage that is not actively being caused by the player should be classified as indirect damage, and have an orange combat text. All other damage is classified as Direct damage and has white combat text.
This would indeed change how some abilities work, but would make the game more consistent in what it considers Direct/Indirect damage.
