Two handed vs other weapons for magicka templar?

I am playing magicka templar and mainly using class abilities with magicka, however i am with two handed sword for the more spell damage reason.
I tested all weapons and noone have surpass two handed with damage so far, it has the higher amount in the game and so on it contributes into abilities as well.
At this point everyone is saying me to use staffs instead and take 2h away, but i am not sure about it. I do not use any other weapons maybe in the future i will implement some abilities from other weapon skills for some extra dots on the second skillset but thats it.
Is it fine to use 2 handed if i am all about damage? I want to do some extra aoe as well and 2h sword with 5% bonus damage and 50% aoe on to 3 targets is doing its job really nicely so far.
I heard dual wield is stronger and gives more spell dmg but is it true? I am not sure about it.
What are the benefits of staff over 2h sword for magicka class using mainly character? And is it worth 100-200 less damage on the class abilities i use right now?

As a magplar, you have a somwhat limited options and depends on ur play. DW swords, lightning staff or fire staff. Thats really it. Two handed swords are not more damage than anything else

Not sure how you tested it, but Dual Wield will give you around 200 more spell damage, and the twin blade and blunt passive will give you 5% more damage done if you use swords.

Also you can use a 5/5/2 set bonus setup that you cant use with a 2H setup.

Staffs have flat 8% bonus to single target or AoE(fire or lightening) and a bunch of usefull passives for sustain and added effects.

Quite frankly, 2H has nothing for you that staves or Dual Wield can't do better.

How can dual be better? Does it has a bonus to give some more dmg?
I tested it, and 2h gives the best dmg of them all.
I do have staff bonus, but it does not give as much as 2h sword does with its bigger damage. The damage difference is real and really big and i mean here magicka abilities.

As a mag character, your better damage will come from magica based weapons and weaves... so staff lights between skills is a great way to boost damage over time.

Also, as a mag user your heavies with staff can return magica which you can burn thru.

The higher "weapon damage" is cool but not as much as you ight suggest to your overall effects.

But, honestly whatever you are enjoying and is working, no need to change EXCEPT if it starts preventing others from running with you.

First off, I got confused with the 2H and was thinking about Dual Wield vs. Staves. Dual Wield offers around 200 more spell damage than staves, not 2H.

2H and Dual Wield, since January, should give the exact same amount of Weapon and Spell damage. And all the passives basically line up between the two weapon lines.

However, like I mentioned before, a Dual Wield set up can afford you another set bonus, since each weapon counts as a set piece, and DW has 2 pieces, while 2H just has one.

Also, make sure you are testing your ACTUAL DAMAGE, and not just reading tooltips. Tooltips are very often incorrect and to not take several bonuses into account. Always use floating combat text, or a combat tracker.

Little used tip: Don't forget that running a sword and shield will allow for 1 extra armor glyph. Since mine is infused that's an extra 1000+ magic and about 3000+ more resistance.

The extra dmg of flame staff is only 3% higher than the extra dmg given by 2H. Though I agree, a magplars have access to a great magicka based gap closer, so they can run anything (even resto staff)
