Before you ask a master crafter...

think about what you want. I need all details because i deal with a lot of valuable materials and doing a mistake can be very costly.
Just saying you want set xyz is not enough.
I want to know if you want light, medium or heavy.
Describe what trait and motif you want and be very clear. Stuff like ebony pact confuses the hell out of me only ( do you want ebony or ebonheart pact? )
Not all crafters got crafting bags, so you have to provide the mats. Do it before you ask the crafter and not let me wait 30 minutes. I have better things to do than waiting for you and don't be mad when im doing a pledge in the meantime and you pm during a boss fight.
Be sure you want set xyz. I'm a crafter, not a theory build maker. I'm not supposed to advise you what the perfect tank set is for you.
Don't go offline suddenly, maybe you forget a detail and i have to ask you so take the time before you want your gear. 20 minutes won't kill you or just ask the next time if you have to hurry.

All of this, I had a guy ask me for lower 5 Julianos Xyvkin, told me he would give me the mats. I ask for the mats, traits, and which armor type and the guy never responded. After 10 minutes of waiting around, I put together a 5 piece infused on the big pieces divines on the small and he gets pissed because that wasn't what he wanted. Then he refused to give me anything for it. Luckily I had a guildy that needed that exact setup so I got my mats back but it was definitely frustrating.

    To help with this, I start out every request with the following;

In-game mail me exactly what you want. I nee to know style, weight of armor, and trait of each piece. I'll be able to start after that. Email must be detailed so I can reference it. Once I have that, I'll start on it shortly there after.

From there if I get the email with the details, I'll copy and paste that into a text editor. Place that on another screen, and finish up. If the email isn't detailed, I don't ask questions about what is missing. I simply say that it wasn't complete and I'm not starting until it is. Sometimes people don't want to do that, which is fine. I didn't really _want_ to make that gear anyway, I agreed to do so as a way of making gold or a favor. Neither of which I must do to survive.

I posted this in our guild forum sometime ago as a guide for crafting requests:

    Crafting Requests
One of the things I enjoy doing for my fellow guildies is helping them with their crafting needs, for example, Nirnhoned armor and weapons, or set pieces for your build. If you do need an item crafted for you, it would help tremendously if you would provide the following in your requests:

Type of piece: For example, Heavy, Medium, or Light chest, arms, etc. If you just say "Chest", that could encompass all three

What Level: L12, CP100, CP160, etc.? Many people have multiple characters.

What Crafted set: Hundings Rage, Seducer, etc.?

What traits: Sharpened, Infused, Reinforced, Nirnhoned, etc.? (You need to send Fortified Nirncrux for armor, and Potent Nirncrux for weapons.)

Racial Style: Bosmer, Altmer, Orc, Daedric, etc.?

Improvement Level: Green, Blue, Purple, Gold. And although I'm generous, if you want a piece improved beyond green, you will need to provide the improvement materiels for each level. For example, to make a Blacksmith item Legendary (Gold), it takes 3 Dwarven Oils, 4 Grain Solvents, and 8 Tempering Alloys. For Epic (Purple), it just takes the 3 Dwarven Oils and 4 Grain Solvents.

Cloth improvement items are Embroidery (Blue), Elegant Lining (Purple) and Dreugh Wax (Gold).
Wood improvement items are Turpen (Blue), Mastic (Purple), and Rosin (Gold).

I can also enchant the piece for you, but again, you need to provide the information for what type of enchantment for each piece you want enchanted, i.e. Health, Stamina, Flame Damage, Crushing, etc.? Also, what level do you want it enchanted and if it's beyond green, I will need one of the following Aspect runes from you: Blue (Denata), Purple (Rekuta), or Gold (Kuta).

As you can see, when crafting pieces there are a lot of variables that can go into crafting a piece of armor or weapons. So that's why it's great to have all the information upfront so that we don't have to play mail tag

lol - I just LOVE crafting requests like this. You can understand if it was someone new to the game, but often times you get requests like this from veteran players.

It was probably a new player, but months ago, someone wanted a set from me. I asked what type of armor and he answered: "Argonian". I got the same when I asked which trait.

Yep, I don't craft sets for people (am always happy to do research gear for free or if nirncrux is supplied for nirn items), because it often takes a lot of time to sort out what they want.

If you want someone to craft gear for you, do your own research first and approach a crafter only when you know what you want! A crafter is not necessarily a theory crafter/number cruncher/familiar with your build and may not be able to tell you which sets are best for your build, you need to decide that for yourself. A crafter cannot tell you which style you want, "whatever looks coolest" is subjective.

Crafters appreciate it when you approach them with a list of exactly what you want - including weight, set, trait, and motif for each item - do that instead of looking for a crafter and then expecting them to help you to decide what you want - please!!! The words no crafter wants to hear are "or do you think it would be better if I went for..." - work it out before seeking out a crafter.

This is actually a good idea. Would minimize (but obviously not remove) the chance of scamming while providing crafters with something to do other than farm after their dailies are over with.

lol This is why I don't do personal craft requests from Zone Chat. Just check the Guild Store and see if you find what you want. If not, check back next week. Or get Z to finally implement Craft Orders at the traders.
