Fatal Client Error 17

I played ESO when it first came out but haven't played since then. I'm having serious trouble getting the game to work. I have had multiple errors regarding corrupt data when updating and patching. I tried everything - uninstall and deleted all files, run as administrator, took down firewall/virus protection, etc... Everything I saw on the forums. I eventually got it to install by continuing to repair and install (I still got corrupt file errors periodically), restarted the computer, install and repair, rinse and repeat. I now have a fully installed version, but when I try to start the game I get a Fatal Client Error 17.

I have a Windows 10 PC with DirectX 12.

Any suggestions on what else I can try?

This sounds like a storage issue... bad blocks on hard drive type of thing.

Short of getting a new hard drive, any suggestions? Should I uninstall some other games and free up sectors and then reinstall? Defrag?

Thank you for your response btw.

Back in the day, I would use SpinRite

    https://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

It can make things stable for a time in most situations. Especially if there is corrupted data that needs copied.

Regardless, it should work to give the drive a great checkup. If it still functions like it did 4 years ago.
