Approaching New Content

Just curious as to how many people use what approach when new content/games are released. Some people dive right in and go exploring. Others toy around until the walkthroughs come out. Some people use what they see others use in the game and some are trend setters.

When you are new to a game (or Morrowind as everyone is in this case) how do you approach it?

Take my time to enjoy new content and story
I take it as slow as possible, as I want the experience to last. I try to read every note I come across and listen to every piece of dialogue. The writing in ESO is terrific, and I really dont want to miss out on it.

I have noticed a lot of players rushing trough the expansion as if it's some kind of race, I can only imagine how disappointed they must be once they run out of content, having not really experienced any of it.

I use different timing based on what the content in the new zone is, specifically.

Exploring new area: I like to do this opening week. It's fun to see how crazy it is.

New questing and storylines: I want to take these slow because we don't get new content that often. I want Morrowind to last me through Christmas...but I also don't want to go so slow that I forget what the heck is going on.

New public dungeons: these are annoying with 500 people in them, I wait.

New group dungeons: I don't rush, but I don't want to wait so long that no one else is running them. I need to grind Shadows for motifs, but everyone is bored of these now.

Profitable drops: I usually spend a lot of time grinding brand spanking new stuff that sells for a fortune. It always depends on the new DLC. With wrothgar, I very quickly discovered how easy the Inn complex was to steal from, and the free containers in the Temple of Ire. We got new recipes with Wrothgar...the first week I was selling the new green writ recipes (murthsea's remorse, etc) for $40k, I think. Then a week at $20k, and a couple at $10k. I made at least 2 million farming recipes. New motifs are also always a target.

I go in blind, and then take it slow. I've even avoided previews and sneak peaks until now, because I wanted to be surprised.

Now that I'm in, I'm taking my time. I read, I listen to dialogue, I check out all the back rooms and abandoned stretches of coastline. I talk to every NPC. I stop to pick flowers and fish. I even walk in certain spots so I can really soak up my surroundings.

The writing and art direction are well worth taking your time, so I don't see the point in rushing through your first time through a new zone.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

i used to spend weeks/months avaoiding all 'spoilers' from PTS only to have some <SNIP> in guild or area chat ruin everything for me the day before console went live

so now i spend weeks making silly/abnoxious comments like this h8ing on the 'favourite child' of zos, the 'add-on dependant' so called 'master race' aka PC players cause they get the content before console AGAIN!

while learning as much as i can about how the changes are going to effect me/my characters
so i can dive right in & enjoy the new content.

Take my time to enjoy new content and story
I'd be very surprised if there's actually many people who won't attempt content without a guide. I'm sure there's a lot who like knowing the guides are there if they need them, or like reading/watching them just for interest or to see if there's anything they didn't find themselves.

But refusing to play new releases until you have a walk-through to follow? That seems pretty unlikely.

Take my time to enjoy new content and story
As a returning player I decided to create a new toon, and plan on taking my time and exploring. I only wonder that I should redo the original story line or just do Morrowind first then redo another area.

Tho I like to quest by myself and imerse myself into the game. I figure my own builds out. On the other hand, Alcast, Deltia (when he was around), Gilliam, Sypher, Fengrush, were good to keep track of, to discuss and listen what they have to say about builds and such. The more you know about what you're trying to play, the better you get at it.
