Should Bow heavy attack revert ? POLL

MakoFore

Having heavy bow attacks automatically release is crap. holding a shot and releasing WAS the joy of using a bow, it makes one feel like a ninja, now with automated bow firing it makes me feel like I'm wearing an incontinence pad - something to help me thru a very basic move i can handle myself. Not ninja like. Vote and let the powers that be see what they have wrought...

It either should revert or just idk make heavy attack to charge faster ? Bow was already weak before this change (most of people use it as a "back bar" weapon. )

Makes it much more realistic, fun and useful to be able to hold heavy attacks and fire whenever you want. I dont understand why they would do something immersion breaking when nobody really complained about it.

I thought I would hate it but in the end it made it feel more streamlined and faster pace and now I just like the feel of it.

The only thing is I miss not being able to line one up but really I dont need to line it up so far in advance I can just get in position and go.

    The change is fine.

Ever try holding a longboy at full draw? Yes, if you can draw them, it seems easy enough - as long as you only do it for a couple seconds to aim. But try holding it for half a minute, and see how your arms will feel...

And I mean the medieval bow versions. not the easy modern 60, 70 pound draw compound bows what also reduce the draw weight to three quarters, perhals even two thirds of the full weight at full draw. I am talking about the old longbows or composite bows (which seem more applicable considering the size of ESO bows), with draw weights above 100 pounds and no pulley system for weight reduction... and you know they needed that draw weight to get their arrows through armor...

Now, if we were to talk -crossbows- on the other hand... in ESO terms, those could not fire a light attack at all, only heavy attacks, but hold them at full draw until fired...
...which would actually be a -great- way to bring them to ESO, as alternate weapon for archers! but I mentioned such things before...

When doing solo PvE stuff with a bow I always liked to be able to hold it drawn in preparation for an attack while waiting for the right timing, such as for a sneak attack, or other events distracting the target (sorc pets, for instance).

The bow going off automatically was a very rude surprise to me last time I played, and generally unwelcome even beyond a "I'm not used to it yet" standpoint; having that control was a significant part of why I preferred bow over staves for ranged attacks.

I voted "yes" but am still torn a bit.

The bow is logically the only weapon IRL with which you can freeze/hold momentum/impact as you like. In ESO however all other weapons release the hit automatically so why shouldn't bow do that too for sake of consistency? It's classical logic-vs-utility dilemma.

but also if we will look to other TES games...every weapon heavy attack was releasing automically while bow always was with hold before shot o:)

Why should you decide when to release your bow heavy attack, when it's soo much faster to have this automated?
Efficiency-wise, this was a good thing. Roleplay-wise, not so.

Your logic would also imply that they add manual aiming for bows (arrows flying straight forward, even when enemies move to the side) and arrows to be able to shoot, like in Skyrim.

Why cant we hold our staff attacks? Or our dual wield attacks? Or any others?

If bows now act like any other weapon i dont see the problem.

Just make an option in the settings.

By default you would have bow like this, automatically firing heavy attacks, but if you toggle it in the settings you would have classic hold and release heavy attack.

The change has removed 'timing' from the game. I don't like it.

I like not having to release the button for a "fully charged" heavy attack.
It makes things so much easier for me.

Though i find the suggestion that there should be a toggle button for whether you want this or not a good idea too ^.^

I don't think I could personally hold a longbow at full draw. But....if I had the strength to carry a thousand ingots and lumber, 200 bowls of soup 400 bottles of water and enough sets of weapons and armor to outfit a small army while single handedly slaughtering a city while wielding a greatsword then holding a longbow at full draw would be my least strenuous exercise of the day.
"it's important to state that our decision to go with subscriptions is not a referendum on online game revenue models. F2P, B2P, etc. are valid, proven business models - but subscription is the one that fits ESO the best, given our commitment to freedom of gameplay, quality and long-term content delivery. Plus, players will appreciate not having to worry about being "monetized" in the middle of playing the game, which is definitely a problem that is cropping up more and more in online gaming these days." - Matt Firor
