Is the bear stupid?

Sorry if this has been asked before but does the bear on the new warden class function as terrible at the summons for sorc? Kinda really want to do a bear bow build but im afraid 90% of the time my bear will be chasing monsters that arent even on my screen anymore like my darn clanfear(However you spell) did.
It's kinda whats making me debate between buying the expansion or not right now.

✭Fully charged heavy attacks now make your pet target an enemy. Also if you are on pc there is the command pet key bind.0 -

✭✭✭✭The PC command is to hold Y and left click for target selection, and hold Y and right click to return the bear to your side.
I'm leveling with bow right now and holy cow, it's useful. If you use the attack command, the mob doesn't aggro to you and your bear closes the gap to engage, lining up range attacks. Try it, it's fun!1 -

I don't like this. I like my matriarch to sit on my shoulder in Cyro to heal me and not go chasing off after every tom, *** and harry stood on the battlements just cos I heavy attacked him...Minalan owes me a beer.
