Confused, Morrowind is out now, what happened to 6th June?

So Morrowind is supposed to be released on the 6th June according to the website and everything I read, but now it seems it's already released. I preordered the collectors edition ages ago but it hasn't been shipped yet. What's going on?

The Official Release Date for Morrowind is still the 6th of June. There was a decision made, to allow people, who preorderd the game , early access. This option expands to all digital upgrades (be they collectors edition or not) and to the physical collectors edition.
To Apply for early access, when you orderd a physical CE you have to use this form:
https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/mw_notification
If you ordered a Collectors Edition it might ship after the release date. The Early Access code is only applicable until two days after official release, so if your shipping is slow your accass might temporarily be deactivated.

Thanks for the answers, I wasn't aware of the early access as I've been away for a couple of weeks. I've submitted my receipt, so hopefully I'll be able to get in now.

Was it a d*ckish answer, yes. I'll own that. At the same time there were plenty of ways to find this informational via a little searching.

There were indeed plenty of ways to find this information, and asking on the forums is one of those ways.

Early access for PC users.

Or, more likely, they wanted to see how many players they hemmoraged by the sustain changes to see whether or not to change them before they hit consoles.

Likely some marketing honcho was failing quarterly targets, so they brought it forward to try to drum up hype and sales for this quarter.

To expand, the decision was made because, why not? The patch is done and this is what will be released June 6th because they have to ship off the patch to MS and Sony for certification which takes about two weeks. I'm pretty sure that's why the early access details were a bit muddy; I don't think early access was originally planned.
