BSW & Sun Sets?

Ok so for a Magika DK BSW still seems like the superior choice, 100+ Bonus Spell damage which I am sure I can maintain even at 15% proc rate, and spell crit instead of max health



My question is, as far as I understand the meta would be a 5 piece like BSW, a 3 piece trial set like Moondancer, and then a Monster helm like Grothgar? I am assuming that this is superior DPS than using both Sun and BSW sets together??

You forgot BSW cooldown. Sun is 400 all the time while BSW is 350 (525*8/12) if you manage to maintain max uptime.

And both sets are affected by the same buffs. So....

Isn't that dependant on class, would be worse on a DK due to them having fire damage rather than magic damage no?

at the moment I think only magNB is haven potential with that set.
Even templars probably aren't going to wear it..

strongest dot's are flame damage..

Could someone explain reasoning in favor of Sun a bit more clear......


BSW: max mag (~96 SD) + (525 SD * 60% ~ 315 SD) = 416 SD
SotS = 400 SD + max health

Also, BSW will buff non-flame damage, say lightning staff back bar if you are running it for HA's....


**edit i got that wrong its max health vs crit.......i dont know how to compare that in SD unfortunately.but even still it seems BSW is somewhat better for pve, albeit really close?

No
you have flame, frost shock and magic damage. flame damage is not magic damage

Also nb has ~40% flame/shock damage. blockade/ulti/autoattacks/undaunted set. so not good in pve for them also...

Comparing Sun to BSW, Sun will most likely dish out more damage in Raids while giving you more suvivability than BSW. BSW might be better against a Dummy due to the increased Burning Chance:



The difference in 57 SD is assuming a 100% uptime on BSW. With 60% it is already 91 Spell Damage. And if we take into account that most people will likely opt for 7 light for more sustain, the Health bonus is very useful if you want to survive.

I already bought Sun pieces as they're fairly cheap right now.

EDIT: I know it's 967 Magicka on full legendary, but that doesn't make a difference either way.

On my mDK i have 5 Sun (permanent) + 5 bsw (on DW bar sun+bsw sharpened swords) + 2 Grothdar. It really burns but very hard to sustain.

Would be a mistake War a maiden may be BIS for Templars and Nightblades.

I think they're both good. Where I think Silks will shine is in trials, esp HoF while learning it. The extra health would be more welcome over crit.

I have 5 BSW + 5 Spinner (on dual wield bar) + 2 Grothdarr. Would dropping Grothdarr in favour of 5 BSW + 5 Sun (with staves) + 1 Kena be better? I have a full gold Sun set including jewellery.

Yes, I have the same question, I can see why people favour sun sets, due to uptime, but is there an argument regarding 5 BSW & 5 Sun vs a monster helm?

With the sustain changes I also had this feeling, but you are probably just going to have to work into your rotation the swap the the staff bar for sustain and then back to DW for the bonuses there.

I can't really speak to the PvE side of the game, but in PvP, using 5 BSW/5 Silks/2 Monster set of choice is a fantastic setup. The damage you can pump out with that setup is unholy.

True, but in PVE we possibly need staves for sustain, so we would have to drop the monster set to get 5 Sun (or farm for swords). We are asking if that would be better.

Sun Set - 967 max mag, 129 Spell Damage, Max Health and 400 spell damage to fire spells

BSW - 967 Max Magicka, 129 spell damage, Spell Crit, 525 x .6 (60% uptime in raids) = 315 spell damage, and increased burning effect chance.

So the question is do we want 85 spell damage or do we want 3% crit and increased burning chance? 3 % crit is around 120 spell damage equivalent, so clearly BSW is better.

Sustain on MagDK in the old trials is not an issue since Flame Lash takes care of everything and add phases replenish us back to full utilizing the lightning staff heavy attack on the back bar which also benefits from BSW.
