Consenting to Vampirism?

I recently made the journey from Daggerfall to Crosswych, but upon my arrival I was surprised to discover I'd somehow been bitten by a vampire en route. Another player claimed they'd done the deed so I was wondering whether it's actually possible to infect another player without their consent.

You would have to be standing in one of the three faction specific vampire shrines for a player to bite you without consent.

Nope. Not that I know of. Should pop up like a synergy, or you bought it through crown store, but if I'm not mistakened, you still have to complete the quest to become a vampire.

Yes. But you'd have noticed since the animation is pretty dramatic. And it can only happen near a vampire shrine.

Only the vampire player has the synergy pop up, the victim has no say in this.

But usually people hang out near the shrine want a bite anyway.

But aren't the shrines only located in Bangkorai, Reaper's March and the Rift? I know for a fact that I wasn't infected when I left Daggerfall.

Interesting. If I remember correctly, bloodfiends also only spawn in these maps, so if you didn't go to any of them then I don't know what happened...

Those are the three shrine locations.

I don't think any overland infecting mobs spawn in Glenumbra, either.

    Strange.

Vampire bites are more like invitations to vampirism. You have an hour i believe before the bite wears off to complete the quest and obtain vampirism.

Used to be some seven days. Now, it is until it is removed.

There isn't. This has to have been sitting on their character sheet for awhile.

I can assure you that it wasn't. Before I left Daggerfall I checked my effects to make sure my food buff was active and there was no sign of vampirism.

Nah, what happened was you were attacked by Blood Fiends and didn't realize you were infected until you noticed it in your stats. It happens. I've had three toons infected by Blood Fiends, one by accident and two on purpose. If you had been bitten by a player you certainly would know it and as others have stated you have to be at one of the Vampire Altars for it to occur.

Blood Fiends are fairly rare occurrences so it is actually a pretty neat thing to get infected by them. If you want to continue on to Vampirism you have to travel and find the quest giver. One is in Bandari (spelling) post in Malabal Tor if I remember correctly. Another is just at the entrance to Riften. The third place I cannot remember at the moment. If you don't want it it is easily removed by visiting a Priest of Arkay. You can find one of the priests in Evermore...Mages guild I think. Can't miss em. He will remove it for a small fee of course.

It was a little more complicated than that.

You had 7 days to pick up the quest. At that point it would sit in your journal until you completed or dropped it. But, the buff was what specifically prevented you from getting the competing infection. So it was possible to end up with vampiric werewolves for awhile back then.

You can be infected by npc's at certain times in the final zone of your faction. I think it's during the in-game night cycle and has to be by a bloodfiend, I believe. But, after being infected you'd still have to do the quest to get the skill line and become a vamp. An npc in the mages guild of your faction's final zone can cure it before you do the quest.

That got fixed. It also flat out applied Stage 1 vampirism, it wouldn't infect you.

There is no way to, legitimately, gain the infection effect in Glenumbra. It's not, "oh, it's difficult," or, "but only with this carefully engineered exploit." It's simply not possible.

If you took a detour through Bangkorai, got into a slapfight with some Bloodfiends, and came back, then sure. That works. But, you can't get an infection from vampires in Glenumbra. You also can't get lycanthropy there. It's simply not possible.

If you actually did, then that's due to a bug that's gone undetected thus far.

Bloodfiends sometimes spawn as mobs at Dark Anchors. I think that might be how I got vampirism when it suddenly showed up on my character sheet. Maybe you got bit at an active dolmen, OP?
