Its 2017, how hard is it to get a working quest tracker?

Seeing as how the quest tracker only tracks one quest at a time, you'd figure it would extra useful. It's not. Three years and the quest tracker still sucks. How many times in the middle of a quest chain does it switch to another quest? Or maybe you accept a new quest in Dehsaan and it starts tracking an old quest in Craiglorn?

Is this just something that flat out can't be fixed? Have any developers ever said anything about this? Has anyone ever had the guts during an interview to ask this question?

I mean, my God man its a quest tracker, how hard would it be give options like:

1. Automatically track the last quest accepted
2. Automatically track the quest nearest to you
3. Not have it it randomly switch and track quests in the middle of a quest chain?

I love this game, but this quest tracker has always bugged me to no end.

For a top end, award winning AAA MMO it might be the worst quest tracker of ANY MMO out there, and that's saying a lot.

You should not have to SPAM "T" or go into your quest logger to re-select a quest, come on.

Remove it from keybind, that's what your problem really is. Or, you could bind it to another key that is not in the way, that would stop the accidental swap.

The switching quests in the middle of a quest chain is one of those little things that really irritates me! I follow the quest marker only to find out it is no longer the right one and I have gone the wrong direction! I agree that ZOS needs to fix it.

It should not switch if you don't accept another quest

What 'should be' and what 'is' are two different things. Mine switches without accepting another quest.

Try ravalox quest tracker (assuming you are on pc).

You can set it to track only quests from the zone you are in etc.

....huh? I dunno, I never really pay attention to it...usually have the wrong quest active too but like who cares XD Still get quest markers for stuff I need. Can't remember last time I actually bothered to switch whatever the random active quest is to the one I'm actually doing, why?

    op is right
when a quest updates stages it should not drop the current task and highlight an old quest.
it does this every time and it annoys the hell out of me.
anyone who doesnt have a problem with it either likes micromanaging quest markers or isnt doing quests

There were times when there was no quest tracker at all, just a journal. Epic times of adventure. But men have tasted the sweet nectar and ambrosia and got spoiled and can't live without those.

Would be nice if there was also an option to turn off tracking of particular quests. Cadwell's Silver, I'm looking at you and never going to do you.

Are you sure you're not hitting T by mistake? I've never had it switch on me unless i switch it myself, in fact i have the opposite issue it's irritated me sometimes that i've accepted a side quest mid quest, and i've decided to do it because it's closer, only to end up getting halfway to the next location of the original quest because it didn't switch.

Welcome to why minimalist UI doesn't really go well with an MMO.

As ZOS has found out since launch and needed to add so much of what they didn't think was required before.

I guess I've just gotten used to so much random sh*t happening in this game's UI ... this hasn't rated as a priority issue for me yet.

I agree with trying Ravalox Quest Tracker if you are on PC. It allows you to track multiple quests at a time in addition to tracking only quests in the zone you are in.

Back when I used the vanilla quest tracker I don't remember it losing which quest I was on unless I accepted a new quest or changed zones. Perhaps it is losing the proper quest focus when a quest takes you into an instanced area that is technically outside of the zone (with a loading screen). I could see that happening, which I consider a bug.

I've notice mine switch without touching T. I think my objective is one direction when I notice its not even the same quest any longer. The only time I ever go in that direction is for my ultimate R. I certainly wouldn't be spamming an ultimate.

It does switch when you complete a quest and that's what the OP is frustrated with. I don't see why the QT has to have an active quest at all times.

I use the journal to manage my quests and I can have anywhere between 7 and 18 quests (I try to limit below 20). Once a quest ends, I have to go into my journal, and forcibly select another quest in the area I'm at because the game seems to just pick the next one in line by default.

Most times, I find another "black arrow" between my current location and "next" objective, and then have to go back into my journal again and select the quest I just accepted.

It's annoying, and I agree there is room for improvement.

I think a bit too much of ESO's code is a cut and paste from Oblivion.

That really doesn't fix the issue. For example say you have a quest to help a farmer grow a special carrot but he needs a specific type of water to put on it while planting. You go get the water from a priest who then tells you to return the water to the farmer. So you head out towards the highlighted marker only to find it leads you to a place where you have to help an orc with a toothache and the farmer is waiting way across on the other side of the continent for his water. The sad thing is you will finally get the farmer his water and he will tell you he needs a sacred hoe and it is located back over by the orc with the toothache. Instead of the marker pointing to the hoe near the orc it wants you to take a boat to a land far away.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."
