A problem with Morrowind (the original one!)

So, with all the buzz about the new Morrowind expansion, I found myself feeling nostalgic, and I thought I'd play the original game.

However, while the game has always been on my hard drive, I couldn't play it once my DVD-ROM died, since the game keeps demanding the disc. So, I uninstalled (saving my old data files and saved games), and copied all the files on the original disc (and also from the Tribunal and Bloodmoon discs) onto my USB stick, then reinstalled the game from the stick.

At first, I couldn't get the game to run at all, but finally after tinkering with the compatability settings, I got the game to run... sort of. It's still asking me to insert the CD, even though the CD-ROM is not functional, and the game wasn't installed from that drive letter.

How do I get the game to run? Is there a way to have it recognize the USB stick as if it was the CD-ROM?

Any help would be appreciated.

I downloaded it illegally a few years ago when I was curious (15 years, I don't think the money matters anymore) and use a virtual cd drive to run it.

You might need the virtual cd drive in order to run it from USB.

My CD drive is also broken.

    How does that work?

If you have Windows 10 its easy. Just convert the setup files to ISO file and bind to drive

Otherwise use external programs to bind iso files as drives.

I couldnt run my tombraider 3 lost artifact on win7 but on win10 works without any external programs installed

english is not my main language

    I'm using Windows 7...

I tried downloading a virtual drive program, but it wants the disc too... presumably in order to make an ISO file.

Frustrating. I suppose I'll just have to get a new DVD-ROM.
