Consuming Darkness

What situations are actually valid to be using that skill?

The Nightblade has Soul Siphon, which is also a defensive ultimate.... And I always end up using that one instead. Do I miss something? Is there any particular situation where Consuming Darkness is better?

    Group play
    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

    Go dominion or go home

Nightblade-Hipster. I played Nightblade before it was cool - from 1.5 onwards.

Okay. What exactly is the benefit there compared to the Soul Siphon in group play?
    They both have synergies.

Create a sap tank and set this down to mitigate damage (you and any team members inside it). Veil of Blades (morph) also does damage to enemies while they are in it.

As for the synergy, I don't think I've ever had anyone activate it.

veil of blades stacks with nova for group damage mitigation. It is good for moments of high damage in a trial where the group is taking major aoe damage and needs to stack. It has a very high duration.

Soul siphon is a burst aoe heal that is also the only source in the game that gives major vitality to group members.

Depending on the group, they are both valuable ultimates for NB healers.

the other morph of consuming darkness, bolstering darkness is the single most strongest mitigation buff in the game, and makes a NB tank nigh invulnerable during the duration.
