To ZOS - A message from fishers across Tamriel - How to improve fishing.

Hello ZOS! I'm an officer in <Fisherman's Friend> [PC NA Server] guild and have been doing a lot of research on what people want from fishing. I compiled a bunch of popular ideas for you to consider.

Some ideas on ways to improve fishing.

1. Fishing writs & quests.
2. Fishing skill, abilities, and passives.
3. More fish furniture and trophies / living trophies in a water container.
4. Fishing tournaments.
5. Fishing equipment.
6. XP.
7. Boss fights / mobs. (some what unpopular)
8. Better gunnysacks.
9. Fishing nodes / containers in homes
10. Increase chance to get fish with caught bait

I really like all these ideas except #7....the last thing I want to do when fishing is fight. I already have to wade though crocodiles and horvers every 5 feet at some spots. lol

But yes, I would love to see fishing made more robust. After getting Master Angler, I don't really feel there's enough incentive to ever cast again...perfect roe is nice, but I want more reasons to fish.

@Cynnalia what if you fought a giant fish?

I agree wholeheartedly with plops in regards to fishing skills, items and equipment. Especially fishing costumes/appearance items. We need fishing hats! A fishing questline or fishing dailies would be great to see!

I believe there used to be a skill line planned but it was cut, not sure if someone from very early beta could confirm that.

Otherwise this is a good list, I would echo others thoughts in that having fights come from it could be annoying if you're just looking to relax and fish and not fight things (especially bosses).

A specific gear set or two from the gunny sacks would be nice as well, I would rather not add new drops to the pool as it can be tough getting achievements as it is sometimes.

i think your website is cool, it helps people interested in fishing in the game and I love your ideas. i hope zos checks this thread out!

I agree with all the ideas apart from boss fights and mobs, combat has no part in fishing in my view. It is relaxing occupation to undertake when you want a break from the combat in the rest of the game.

I'm surprised that neither the original post nor the guild website (from a brief perusal) makes any mention of the platform and server on which the guild operates - I'd have thought that to be a pretty essential point for anyone you're trying to interest in the guild.

Also, if you catch a trophy fish, it would be nice to be able to put it in a creek/pond/fountain in your house without it being dead...

Yeah, some people actually want fishing fights like in Final Fantasy 11 and WoW. I'm not sure about what other games have done that. On the other hand I totally get that many people dont want fights and fishing should be relaxing. I'm just going off what people have told me / mentioned.

I've received some advice from some of our master anglers about fishing and this is what they siad. "Don't get too stressed on a single zone because it takes a long time to get Master Angler (MA). That it is good to swich zones if you are feeling frustrated" And to remember fishing should be fun if its not try doing something else for a bit and come back later when it feels fun.

On a side note - We had our monthly fishing derby yesterday and it went really well. It was pretty fun and the guild was pretty happy.

I get into fights all the time while fishing. I don't know what it is but those mini-dolmen events always seem to find me when I'm just trying to chill.

I wouldn't mind fishing passives, but active skills? I can't wrap my head around it. Fishing is basically opening a "container" of water. Which is why autoloot works. I don't know how you can use a skill for that.

Fishing tournaments! I loved the winter fishing quest, even though I dislike Argonians

Fishing equipment? Wtb Golden Rod of *Carp* Ediem? Nah I like the way the fishing rod just "appears". However if they want to add "nets" to houses that have a water feature so you can collect from the "net" every 48 hours or something... I'd fall in love!

Fishing writs and quests.... Would be nice actually. Especially if they made it a contest between an Argonian and a Khajiit npc.

I wish we could craft our own fishing poles; every motif should have a style. Or at the very least, be able to use the wood types that are available. The aesthetic is so incredibly boring.

Needs some TLC.

I wholeheartedly agree with this thread. The fishing in this game is fun and relaxing, a good base that the devs could use to build something special.

I would love to see a fishing pole slot. The ability to craft different styles of fishing poles. Also to have the chance of looting rare fishing poles from random encounters, or fished up bosses. Or rare fish that could be traded to a Fishing Merchant for rare fishing equipment.

I would also love to see some fishing daily quests.

Also to be able to modify bait or make new bait that gives bonuses to chances of catching rare fish.

And to make rare fish and possibly new fish usable in a variety of recipes, making fishing a more viable market in the economy of the game.

And please ZOS. Increase the chances of catching a rare fish with caught bait. It seems pointless currently.

Nowadays, since I have my master angler title, I just fish for perfect roe. So catching superfluous crap like furniture items is annoying. So please, no increase to those things.

They could add a taxidermist to each alliance that will take a small fee to turn our rare fish into furnishing decor. And not something of small negligible size, I would want these to be the size of some of the pets.

I'm sitting on about 60 of those rare fish in my angler' inventory in the hope that it would happen.

After 3 years player, I'm finally getting around to getting my fishing achievements. Not much else my Mageblade will be good for, but that horse is already dead...

Only time they've added to fishing since launch was Perfect Roe (XP pots). While this made fishing profitable (though not VERY) it could defiantly get some additions to make it worth doing or more fun. Would love to see about half of those ideas implemented.

I mean, thieves have their skillline, why can't fishers?

the game generally needs more activities- it wouldn't be hard to have a weekly fishing contest, etc see who can catch the most of something. as well as actiiites for other elements in the game- , gambling, dice, fight contests, etc, etc. this wouldn't be hard to do - yet zos ignore it- its the day to day interactivity that makes a game. its why i felt witched 2 was more of an interactive experience than this- a multiplayer game.

You need to use correct bait for each spot. Google ESO fishing maps
