Killing unseen 9 hp spiders

Approach mob. Select mobbite most likely to be a pain in the ass, and target lock. Throw expensive/slow opener... at tiny snake 40 degrees from mob, killing the HELL out of it, alerting mob, and wasting a bunch of magicka.

I have hurled my javelin with godlike strength at spiders on the horizon.
I have encased at least one very confused bunny rabbit.
I have dropped meteors on the heads of many small creatures who were minding their own business in dark corners.
I have called down lightning on bugs that were literally behind me.

I don't need to kill any more 9 hp insects. I've read various explanations about why this happens, and done everything I can think of to avoid it, so this is what I'd like: when I lock on a target, that's where my attack should go. Fair play if something gets between us or I lose LOS, but suddenly hitting trash that's really far away and off at an angle? This should not be a thing.

If that's not a good solution, perhaps a toggle like the one that lets me choose to never target innocents. I don't need to hit bunny rabbits, ever.

Maybe their evil is why my characters are so bent on obliterating them? lol

LMAO! Yours is the funniest OP that I've read in weeks!

Dunno, a woman once told me her programmer husband claimed that the most difficult task in programming a game like ESO is the interaction between the player's character and the "world" in which that character acts. Only God knows how many times that my character's attacks have slaughtered bugs, frogs, and other innocent living creatures who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Albeit, we can loot the corpse to use as fishing bait.)

There are occasions when it appears that the game software has ideas of its own while identifying the target that I believe that I've selected, or intended to select. Even using a key which is bound to select (and highlight) an enemy target when I press it does not prevent that. It still selects something as a target which I didn't expect or intend to select.

The ESO option that prevents a player's character from targeting "innocents" applies only to Player Characters and Non-Player Characters who are not hostile to that player's character -- such as other players' characters who are at or move into or through the scene of the fight. (In Cyrodill, another player's character which is not a member of the same Alliance as your character is automatically hostile, and neither your character nor the other player's character is protected by that option.)

By the way, in World of Warcraft, the game awards you an achievement when your character has killed 1,000,000 innocent creatures while in fights with other PCs and/or NPCs. When you discover that, it does give you pause to think.
