Did the visuals in Morrowind get worse over the course of 700 years?

If so, was it because of a curse by Molag Bal toward future generations? :o

LOL. I love that dark elf's face in the bottom pic. (That waist, though ...)
The human looks a bit creepy. B)

I dunno what you're talking about, the bottom pic looks way better, even if it is just my nostalgia talking. TES: III will always be unique, and a copy-paste environment that Zeni creates won't even come close.

In mythological histories, like the Elder Scrolls, it is commonly assumed that the world gets worse over time, not better.

The first, Golden Age of perfection declines through the Silver and then the Bronze Age to the iron age where everything is crap, ancient secrets are all lost, there are constant wars, and the great achievements of the past are nought but ruins.

I guess that principle applies to graphics as well. The 4K graphics of TES's 2nd era will, in 700 years time, have declined to the 32 colour 800x600 of TES:III.

By the time TESVI:The Merethic Era comes out we can expect photorealistic graphics in full 360 degree VR.

I was going to say the monitors got better but then who would believe me. Did you know that humans only developed seeing in colour around 80 years ago?

That's just the effects of the Blight. One of its symptoms was to reduce the polygon count on everything.

Perhaps we'll encounter the Blight's origin during the expansion's campaign, with the polygon count on everything slowly being reduced the longer we play? ;)

This comment is even funnier when you learn that TES: III Morrowind does have a copy-paste environment. I should know, I spent over 4,000 hours in that game, as well as mod so much of it.

Yeah, and my point is just that MMOs tend to take the copy/pasty-ness to a whole new level. ESO might have some cool looking environments, but the single player games have much more attention to detail, as well as more of a reason to explore in general.
