I bought a used wired xbox 360 controller from a recycle store for like 2 dollars. took it apart and cleaned it and it works great. No need to drop a lot of money for a new one. Just a suggestion.

Do you need to run a program for that?

When i play eso steam is allready running in the background. Thats the reason i was lokking at the steam controller.
Or can you use steam to setup the xbox controller?

Sorry if it's a dumd question xD

I also am playing ESO through steam. Windows should automatically detect/install everything for the controller to work. You only have to turn on the gamepad mode in ESO and be good to go. So, no additional programs needed.

You can get an xbox one controller and just plug it in or get the wireless adapter to go with it. If you go wireless I recommend getting the rechargeable battery to go with the controller. There is a setting in the game to turn on controller support and it will change the UI to match the console UI.

I play on pc sometimes and when I do I use my xbox controller. But when I am in bussy area's or pvp and trials etc. sometimes I notice a lot of imput lagg of 0,5-1 sec to the point when you cant really use your controller anymore for the content but this is just my experience and I haven't played on pc the past 3months though so it might have changed/improved.

I changed over from Xbox a month or so back and started using my Xbox controller but decided to try and use a gaming mouse and keypad (both Razer products) takes a couple weeks to get used to but honestly much better than using the controller - I'd honestly give it a go.

I have a gaming mouse and keyboard and i have no problem playing with them.

I just think i some cases i would find a controller more enjoyable then k/m.

And i know how a ps/xbox controller feels to play with. I have had every console there is exept for the nintendo switch xD

I am specificly asking for the steam controller.

Steam probably has a bunch of profiles for the Steam controller from fans (I don't have mine plugged in at the moment and can't recall how to check without it); the Elder Scrolls Online Reddit has some, too.

Steam supports Xbox One and PS4 controllers and remapping, so you should be able to get those to work with the game, too - although for the PS4, the UI may not match the buttons. If you can't get it to work, there are a bunch of good, free programs for PC (Input Wrapper, etc.) that will quickly and painfully let you set up a PS4 controller on your PC.

And of course an Xbox One controller is already mostly plug-and-play for ESO, and you can remap functions pretty well using the mouse and keyboard control options, even for the gamepad. Probably want a keyboard handy for chat, though.

I use the Xbox Elite controller for the 4 extra bumpers along with a program called reWASD that allows you to bind any keyboard key press to any controller button.

    Steam controller???

I find that thing to me barely usable. The touch pad is just not an effective aiming input. Use a old-wired xbox-360 controller for a cheap, reliable, and effective PC controller.

I had different controllers, I can say that the big company controllers are good. I had also from 10 to 25€, from AliExpress, and those are very bad with functionality. As per me there is a big difference in the gameplay. I am playing with Stadia, i dont recomend the controller if u dont have Stadia. It doesnt have bluetooth connection, so u will have to always be with the wire. But as a controller it is a good one. Much gentle than xbox's

PS4 controller works just fine, especially if you play through Steam, as Steam will configure your controller. Just have to turn gamepad mode setting on in game menu.

As a side note, there is a addon through Minion that will switch the Xbox button layout to the ps4 button layout, if that messes with you a bit.
