I don't how zos works, i just want to know what they do when a player is reported do they just ban without evidence because some troll told them too. Or do they find evidence of it. i don't know whats the process im just curious maybe a mod can inform me of what happens

You really think they don't have records of what happens on their servers?

I'm sure they have actual evidence before they ban people. ZoS more than anyone should know that trolls exist...

I doubt they would consider banning anyone without data to back it up.

From what I've personally observed, ZOS seems to be very lenient and rather understanding for the most part. They aren't just ban-happy, and go about doing things without solid evidence. Again, this is from what I've observed. To get banned, a person must've done something incredibly bad. Or had done something that was worth getting disciplined for.

I saw one of the ZOS people post once that when they receive a report of botting (for example), they'll send someone into the game to the reported spot to witness it for themselves. (I believe this is what they said. It was a while ago and my memory is spotty.) So I don't think they just ban people based on the word of a single person making a report. They've also said that botters who are reported by multiple people take priority over a single report.

I suspect that for harassment issues, they'd want a screenshot of the harassment as proof of what happened. I don't speak for them, though, and I'm only guessing.

What I've seen is that people banned actually dig their hole deeper trying to rationalize their cheating. They actually confess but think that their confession is a "good reason" for cheating.

For example, a person with a youtube video was actually showed on on his youtube channel that he did an exploit and he was having a good old time with it and laughing and griefing people - then the next video he complained about his ban and described how he was trying to manipulate them into giving him his account back. What a dummy, lol like ZOS can't watch a youtube video with the the same username that they banned?

So just like with the police, the biggest mistake people make (probably as I see in my crystal ball) is that they say to much and incriminate themselves.

Agreed. I think it's something about wanting the fame and notoriety, as that would be the only logical reason behind most scenarios like that. Why else would you intentionally do something so foolish? People really need to stop aiming for acknowledgment and "e-cred", by doing foolish things. It's ridiculous and flat-out dumb.

Depends on the situation, but it's mostly that an account needs to be flagged and then it's activity, to a point, is monitored. However it's not commonplace to monitor all accounts by default due to the sheer amount of space needed to store the data.

They ban first ask questions later for sure.

There are GMs on console who get people banned from getting guildies to report all the time.

Chat records, trade records, store records, resource records--pretty much any metric that could be used to discover if you broke the terms of service is recorded by ZOS. They always have evidence before they ban. (These days anyway. They once banned a ton of innocent people right after launch)

ZOS has an auto ban mechanism in place. If you buy too many raw mats through the in game mail system it will auto ban all accounts involved.

I've seen people claim they were banned during the K K K fiasco in Craglorn this week. People who were not even part of the group, nor walking or moving with the group - but merely chilling in the general area.

    Of course, anybody banned is going to make claims like that (of innocence) so I'm left with this though;

It's very possible ZOS just bans without warrant in some cases. But we don't really know. They def. have the capacity to gather evidence - whether they do in all cases, is beyond me.

past events have taught us...sometimes? i recall hearing a while back about people being banned for no reason other than they were reported a lot of times, regardless whether or not they actually did anything wrong

as the lord FENGRUSH once put it, "i guess it just depends who's working that day"

When it comes to bans, ZOS is a moody teenager. They may look the other way for months at cheating and boting, or they may come down hard on PC garbage. Consistency is not in their vocabulary.

All games ban without presenting evidence if the ban is for cheating.

This is to prevent hackers/botters from figuring out what aspect of their program was flagged by the anti-cheat software.
