Open World Sandbox system

Is an Open World Sandbox system something of interest to you?

Could be something simple, like you just build stuff.
Could be advanced like Minecraft or EQ Landmark
I think open sandbox system like Minecraft and EQ Landmark is the way of future, because current MMORPG's are static, zones never change, cities never change, but with sandbox system. One day you could see magnificient city, next day, could be a monster breeding ground.
Just to show examples of capabilities of open world sandbox MMORPG, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgwAnrnAXVU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GdJvvyNSHw

As you can see, in this game, you can climb pretty much everything, the environment in the game is more smooth when compared to ESO, where some environments are very glitchy, as in you cant go up certain spots and when you fall its a straight fall, not a tumbling or sliding fall like you see in EQ Landmark, ESO still has that old game feeling when interacting with environment.

I'm all in favour of an open world sandbox MMORPG, but that is not what Minecraft and EQ Landmark are/were. I want more than just world building kits.

The problem where sandbox MMORPGs are concerned is that developers think they have to be based on PvP which is an immediate turn-off for me.

I always support more sandbox gameplay, however I doubt it would work with ESO.

    Could be like runescape.

You have the PvE area.... Than you have wilderness aka PvP area.

I am highly interested in sandboxing ESO. However I doubt that the foundations for ESO. Will allow for such a thing to become a reality for ESO.

Have a massive zone dedicated to open world system.

    "ELDERSCROLLS: Frontiers"

I don't know about construction in existing zones, but big PVE events in zones (like an Oblivion invasion) changing the landscape to a destroyed appearance and big rampaging monsters (godzilla sized Deadroth) to group battle during event times might be an interesting refresh. You could even use the existing keep repair scheme to fortify the cities during the attack periods, all in a PVE setting.

I could be interested in an ES-spinoff in that style.*

But that is not ESO, and it 99.9% chance couldn't be ESO.

That's the kind of thing you need to build your entire game engine & world for from the ground up.

    * Although, now that I think about it, the whole "build settlements" thing in FO4 was kind of like that. And it felt a bit overdone, honestly. It's neat, but it took up a bit too much of the game. So integration of that kind of thing into an ES "rpg" doesn't seem like a good idea. Just an ES-themed minecraftlike, then?

Sounds like fun. Too bad Zeni's in profit cruise control at the moment. Perhaps in the next couple decades though?

What OP is talking about is irrelevant in ESO since it would be far from practical to change the game that much.

Besides, sandbox games tend to be flat. MMOs are not flat. There are several arcs for people to enjoy. Everyone has a choice. We can play ESO or we can play Arc.

Yes, and no... in my opinion. Everquest was phenomenal, at its inception. Eventually it was bad. If someone could take the spirit of classic Everquest, Kunark, and to a lesser extent Velious, and remake it in a modern game... I would probably play it for 10 years or more.

Everquest, from true racial differences, to an immersive world where NPCs reacted to race, class and faction, and where the rules didnt care about whether it was fair or not because it was your choice... that game actually made the world feel alive, there were consequences. And every class was different enough that less people cried about balance because classes werent slight modifications of the same thing. Necromancers didnt complain about wizard dps because they didnt want to be wizards... necros had pets, charms, dots, cures, heals ect that wizards didn't. They werent comparable so why try.

    As for a sandbox mmo...

Sure, I would play it. I think the best gameworld would be a sandbox but it isn't easy in practice.

We have closed this thread as the subject is off-topic regarding Elder Scrolls Online. If the topic was focused on what open world features could be added into ESO it would then be on topic.
