Accidently stealing things at shops ?!

Am i the only one who constantly missclicks at shops and accidently steals something instead of clicking on the shop keeper (playing with pad)?? This is soooo annoying...is there a way to activate something like a double click for stealing? If not it would be really nice if you always had to confirm before you steal something?!

It's happened to me a few times when I'm trying to get something mundane done quickly. I just make sure I'm looking directly at the NPC now so haven't bothered looking for a setting to toggle.

This is pretty standard in elder scroll games like oblivion and skyrim :)

Note that its not illegal to look in containers just stealing from them so having auto loot stolen goods is nice to have off.
If you steal for the money you don't want to pick up lockpicks, water and style stones anyway.

I once clicked on the desk in the rawl-kha bank and found an blue funiture blueprint
Since I was about to log off I stole it :)

There's an addon: No Accidental Stealing.

    Not on consoles. :(

It's a tad frustrating. Sometimes you have to actively chose to steal something and other times, mainly with things left out in the open, there is no choice and so if you're not paying attention......

And yes, the writ drop off at Belkarth is horrendous, especially provisioning.

It's very easy to do. Encourages you to be careful, I guess.

It's funny really, I accidentally stole something in the Daggerfall bank when that annoying woman stepped out of the way just as I pressed the interaction button. Luckily the guard was behind a pillar and didn't notice. I promptly used a scroll to wipe out the bounty then she spoke to me as if nothing had happened.

Master Thief also, which basically turns off Auto loot of stolen items if you happen to be standing up.
Very helpful when turning in Writs, since all the stuff around the crates is lootable.

Poor consoles. No choice but to be very careful, especially if you have stolen valuables on you already.

I figured out a way to pretty much eliminate it.

Look up to the heads of a merchant before trying to activate them. Almost every shop in the game does not have clickables near the NPC's Heads.

From what I remember, a couple of Guild Kiosks in Sentinel have stuff that hangs near the NPC's heads. Good news the Refuge is 20 to 30 Meters away. Anyone can escape the guards and pay off the bounty if needed.

But it would be nice if things on the desk of an NPC Vendor would be statics or marked unowned.

I think he is referring to the items not in a container. Like the weapons or various items hanging/ laying around the npc. I have done this a few times, mostly if there is lag or am in a hurry.

I was recently in a zone just killing stuff left and right in Stormhaven. I had a quest marker that was in a house. I went in the house and up the stairs, saw something move in the dark and pretty much instantly killed the two lurking daedra.

Except they weren't deadra. They were an old grey haired couple hiding in their attic from the daedra. :(

When things like that happen I think ESO should give you a temporary title like "Killer of Old People" or something. I certainly wasn't feeling very heroic.

They probably aren't talking about looting containers. They are likely talking about clicking on food, drink, potions, or 5 gold on table tops. That is automatically looted no matter the gameplay settings (unless you use an addon).

On the first floor/level of Elden Root, Grahtwood there's a grocer to the side by the provisioning station. And this grocer is a troll. For whatever the reason, they have fish hanging up right in front of them. More than half the time of attempting to interact with them, I've accidentally stolen that freaking fish. Seriously. I kid you not. I've had more bounties from that damn hanging fish, than anything else in the game that gives you bounties. :|

Classic Elder Scrolls feel right there.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
