Win10 Update 1703 - Windows Creator Update broke my ESO launcher

Not sure what to do about this one. I tried reinstalling the launcher, setting it to admin and compatibility mode to Win7, nothing seems to have worked yet. It stays suck at 'Loading....' I never get to see the launcher actually finish loading, it just spins forever.

My OS is Win10, 64-bit.

I have all updates set to manual. I do not have creators and i double checked to make sure. Got nothing to do with creators. It's either the game server or somewhere between us and the server that's causing the issue.

Hey all, I found the solution to the problem.

I needed to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and the second it finished the patcher loaded up and is installing.

I hope so. I do need to set it to manual. However, in my situation sadly, I needed the OS update to get rid of a silly memory loss error that kept cropping up when it shuts down.

My patcher was working just fine this past Monday.

I had a problem after the Creators update but im on Win10 64 Pro and the game was crashing after clicking play., this is how I fixed it for me after much trouble. If it dose not work try the same process on the launcher exe.

    1 - Brows to the game DIR = C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client (by default)

2 - Right Click the fIle eso64 and click trouble shoot compatibility

3 - Click Trouble Shoot Problem

4 - The option The Program requires additional permissions should be ticked already. If so click next.

    5 - Click test program.

6 - If it launches fine save and enjoy.

Hope this helps in some way.

Best answer so far. However I have been running the windows update for over a month and had no problems. I suspect you may be encountering the failing NA servers this weekend. The NA PC server has been offline most of the last two days.

windows 10 update for me broke my PC.
i am being forced to re-install windows. and i just bought this PC 2 months ago.
if all it broke for you was the launcher then id say you lucky. you might have to re-install / reformat just like i am in order for it to set up properly. my apologies but the companies today simply are not paying attention.

Yea all it broke was just the launcher itself-- I have not tried Street Fighter 5 off of Steam or Witcher 3 from GoG yet though I should try that to see if this broke anything else.

If I navigate and manually launch eso64.exe file from deep in the computer, she boots the game no issues there. Problem is, if I get a patch, currently there is no way to get that patch put onto my system since they only give us patches through the launcher.

Geez...reinstalling the OS is rough. While I mainly play ESO on PS4, and while PC players usually knock us for inferior hardware, it's a hell of a lot less stressful to boot up PS4 ESO then it is to update your PC machine only to have 9 different key elements to the OS just stop running smoothly. I am honestly really afraid of updating my machine anymore, including Graphics Drivers form Nvidia.

I tried this method before creating the thread and the launcher just kept spinning on 'Loading...'. No response from it whatsoever.

This is what I am hoping is the case, but if we're to look at the comment from dwemer_paleologist the issue might be deeper then we suspect.

Reinstalling, or even jumping back to a more older/stable build is a big inconvenience for me personally. Also a little risky.

I have reinsalled 10 3 times since the preview builds before launch....

99/100 times with 10, downloading the iso for the latest preview build, (cu for you) then do an upgrade install from the iso(i just extract it to a folder on my hdd most times but you could use rufus to make a bootable usb drive(use ntfs not exfat/fat32 )

dont this dozens of times to various systems, very rarely has i tnot worked.

    good luck...

I was gonna just run ESO off my tower. Since it has not gotten the Creators Update yet. Probably better running it off that then a laptop anyway.

even gaming laptops tend to be sub optimal gaming platforms, as to update.....im 2 builds past CU and the games working the same for me as my buddy still running anniversary update and cu...the last 1-2 patches to the game seem to have introduced some weird bugs, that or its server side/bad routs/packet loss...i think its both having seen black water 3 times now on my 1070 on 4 different drivers, same results my friends still running amd 270x/460/fury range cards are getting on drivers old and new...

fps are 100% fine standing still, moving camera panning in a circle drops fps 10-20fps....moving and turning drops it 30+ no matter the gfx settings....

consistently reproducible even on a 100% clean no addons eso install... using LTS windows 10 ent(long term stable/long term support) all they way up threw latest preview, clean install of windows or not......dosnt seem to matter...

also dosnt seem to matter if you got an i7 6core/12thread at 4.6ghz, or and amd FX cpu....perfs just...buggered at least for some of us...

DLC areas like wrothgar/theives areas....are BAD...

funny enough every other game i test, of my hundreds on steam, dx9/10/11 all run fine-great....even a few that typically ran poorly and where buggy have ran shockingly well ...

    my friends have found similar...

we ran around for a couple hours in gw2 last night and....its sad when a game wth VERY VERY VEYR little threading on an updated version of the gw1 engine....consistently gets better fps then eso....that was not true for any of us till recently....

hell, i can run gw2 at 4k+ with reshade tuning the game to look....amazingly better...(almost as much better as it makes eso look...)....consistently open world...50+fps... towns 20+ in game settings maxed out...

and....i found...anet put SMAA in game....something zos really need to do...

anyway....i doubt its 100% your system, i also doubt its windows at this point...even my buddy who runs this on a mac has seen a perf hit, though not as bad...we expect its because whatever was "Tuned" either isnt supported as part of the feature set of the winewrapper they used/video driver on linux...either way...some systems seem unaffected..im guessing their hardware/drivers dont support those features...

the other component likely is either
bad routs between players and server
packet loss between player and server
    server overload/poor load balancing/bandwidth issues
all of the above seem likely issues reading posts the last couple weeks...

hopefully whatever it is, thepatch monday will sort it...if not....guess im removing + from my account till its fixed...no biggie...gw2 has changed alot...and i was actually having fun running around with my old main....kinda wish i could tak the best parts of Tera, GW2 and ESO and use them to cover for eachothers weaknesses... because they are each strong in places the others are weak...

anet arent great but...their supports def better then zos's has been for quite some time... i put in a ticket about an account bug....45min later i got a call on the phone, from an upper level support rep, who then forwarded me to an admin who was able to see the problem when i explained it...and, ended up running a check for the problem on the database and finding tends of thousands of accounts with similar invalid values in specific fields...

i discovered i had a gift in the mail when i logged in after that... a thanks for helping them clear up a bug they hadnt noticed was wider spread then a hand full of players....the fact they called me over the ticket was a shock, a good shock..i had mentioned i would be awake all night but not to call before the evening....even more shocked at a thank-you-gift...

anyway....so much to love about eso....and so much that makes me just want to watch movies and do something other then fight with weird issues...

This is why I play primarily on PS4. Press the power button to turn it on, highlight/click ESO and it boots off the hard drive. Smooth, simple.

There is way too much guess work involved with PC, but I'm sure you're a better expert on it then me, hahaha.

Speaking of errors, I accidentally created a situation where PlayStations payment system blocked my bank card from being used. All because I got a new card, with only the expiration date changed. I had to phone into their support to get it looked at, and took them a couple of weeks, but the functionality returned. :)

Some folks encounter a hidden, outdated VC++ (Visual C++) library. (ESO installer includes VC++ elements, although those should be up to date. Other programs not so much. Those other programs might install outdated VC libraries which could conflict with the Launcher.

    1. First use Settings ~ Security & Updates ~ Check for updates. Windows Update may find, download, & install updated VC++.

    2. If nothing, browse to Microsoft site ~ Support, search for VC++ downloads.

Issue did not affect my Launcher, but hit other programs. Windows Update fixed those.

No reboot or OS reinstall required! :D

    Hope this helps.

I had the VC++ I needed before the Creators update was installed. What's interesting enough is that the installer does have that, it for some reason would not take. Me having to actually navigate to Windows VC page to download the correct package actually fixed it.

However, I failed to inform this thread that the Win OS update actually half assed itself onto my version of Windows. This is possibly half of the reason why the launcher was failing to respond.

I did have to let the laptop reinstall windows, might as well go the extra mile to help wash out any of the gunk a badly installed OS patch might have caused.

I think the laptop is stable for now. But any recommendations as to what VC++ I need to keep track of for ESO would be very helpful in the future.
