Which monster set is better for MagNB DPS? Grothdarr or Ilambris?

Hi,

I am thinking which monster sets, Ilambris or Grothdarr are better for a DPS magblade, destro, resto build.

But checking the tooltips, Grothdarr seems stronger to me, the only drawback is 10 seconds cooldown, compared to 8 seconds of Ilambris.

Is Grothdarr better for PVE? And what about for PVP?

Grothdarr:
(1 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka - same

(2 items) When you deal damage, you have a 10% chance to create lava pools that swirl around you, dealing 2000 Flame Damage.- stronger to all enemies within 8 meters -
greater distance
of you every 1 second for 5 seconds - same time. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds - 2 seconds longer cooldown

Ilambris:
(1 items) Adds 967 Max Magicka

(2 items) When you deal Flame or Shock Damage, you have a 10% chance to summon a meteor shower of the damage type that deals 1300 Damage to all enemies within 4 meteres every 1 seconds for 5 seconds. Each effect can occur once every 8 seconds.

Grothdarr if you're only using flame dmg. Illambris if you're using both flame and shock dmg.

I use ranged with destro/resto, so Ilambris would be best then. But flame/shock, will class skills and pots be enough to sustain for me?

I use flame staff, so flame with the knockback, that is good too. Hmm, but imobilize enemy, for how long is that pls?

What's ranged melee? Like a polearm or a spear or something?

Nightblades are in your face characters, so Grothdarr. The damage goes wherever you go. Ilambris is only good in PvE cause any other player would just walk out of the damage.

Illambris. Use a flame staff with a shock enchant.

just because you used ranged abilities doesn't mean you need to stay at a distance from your target. Grothdarr has better DPS regardless.

PvP bomblade: Grothdar, can use it on other magblade builds but only if you're a glass cannon otherwise its a waste.

PvE: Illambris due to the fact a lot of the dps is focused on stationary targets i.e the bosses, provided the tank can hold aggro and good positioning.

Typically my magblade setup on PvE would be Moondancer x3, Scathing mage x5, then x2 illambris and then the thief mundus and a vMA inferno and lightning staff (BUT you can still run dual wield swords on magblade if you want idk how effective it is, Lightning staff AoE is just too good to pass up though for many). have inner light on your main damage bar with shooting star and you'll easily have over 42k magicka with a breton or a altmer. Maybe even dunmer actually though im not sure Ive never played dunmer tbh so I dont know the racials off by heart.

I've tested both on mag sorc with shock staff and for pve I definitely prefer Grothdarr. Even with ranged dps, if starting long range abilities I end up quickly dealing with large groups in close combat. I play with volatile familiar and my favourite is to stack aoe damages from various sources. Also on shock sorcerer it's greater damage on Grothdarr with flame than Ilambris with just damage. Considering that my sorcerer has ~50k magicka pool the damage from Ilambris is way too low for this 10% Chance and 4 meters range.

Maybe I'll test Ilambris more in Magicka DK, which is also shock staff user but more ranged than sorc.
Anyway imho damage from ilambris is not awesome for a large amount of animation effects it creates.

PS. cp amount shown on screenshot wasn't intended ;).

One thing to bear in mind is. In rw game not theory land the vast majority of enemies are in your face anyway. Even most trial bosses you are stacked on them bar a few. The excepting is hel ra where magika get to have some nice distance 1st boss mol and some parts of Rakkhat you are out of range for some parts. Illambris is easily wasted when a boss moves too.
