What happened to Darien Gautier? (Potential Spoilers)

So, just recently finished one of the last Cold Harbor Quests and was wondering, where does Darien Gautier go? He simply disappears? Is there any of lore related to his random disappearance?
I liked him, he provided many laughs throughout the storyline.

I assumed he died, and was sad.
It's weird seeing him elsewhere in the game after doing the main quest, though. He's still standing at the gate of Rivenspire in my game. LOL. I want to say to him, "Hey! You survived Molag Bal! Great to see you!"
