With battlegrounds coming in Morrowind, I believe that we need a better targeting system to improve the quality of life of pvpers. Right now, the problems I have with the targeting system is that:
1. It feels clunky. My target sometimes switches for various reasons such as the person going out of line of sight, which messes up my burst rotation.
2. There is no call target system. When facing up against a medium-large group of players (8-12) as a duo/smallscale group, having to tab target through multiple players to get the right target that your lead wants you to prioritise is a giant hassle.
3. From what I’ve read on the pts notes, there are no current plans in separating solo queue and premades in battlegrounds, meaning premades will occasionally match up against a group of solo queuers. While there is an obvious advantage with premades, especially if they’re using voip, this advantage is further widened when the group of solo queuers have no way of community priority targets during combat.
Surely a call target command would not be hard to implement. Guild wars 2, one of the few MMOs that could be said to have competitive pvp and an esports scene, has a simplistic yet effective targeting system. Any party member can call target by pressing CTRL-T which is the default bind. A red crosshair then appears above the target player/NPC and other party members can change to this target by pressing T. Party members can also override/switch priority target by calling target again. Other than that, it utilizes the basic tab targeting system.
If Guild Wars 2 can have this on day 1 of launch, why do we not have a call target command after 3 years?
I hope the points I’ve made on why we need a better targeting system clear and easy to understand.
