What computer specs do you run ESO on? advice..

I've played on a macbook pro- the current model- for the past year. Its been fine- been able to play on med-low settings with all shadows, etc off- but would like to enjoy the game fully. Im looking to invest in a PC - primarily for ESO. what systems do people play on PC wise- and how would they rate their experience, and any advice for someone looking to get? I've heard the 1060 video card is a better bang for buck than the 1080. i dont need the best machine in the world, just something that can run the game fluidly on high settings, - not necessarily ultra, and something that won't date in a year or two. I havent bought a PC in literally 15 years- so any advice would be appreciated.

What is your budget? I used only laptops previously, but recently put together my first desktop for under $900 with i7-6700K and GTX 1060 6GB @ 1797 MHz (parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pp8WzM )

Runs ESO pretty well, around 100fps on ultra in PVE areas at 1080p. In PVP however, I lower some of the settings and during big keep battles frame rate still drops sometimes.

I built myself a pretty average PC last year, focusing on an i5-6400 at 2.7GHz, 1050Ti and a modest 8Gb DDR4 memory at 2133Mhz. I play on the highest settings, and the game runs absolutely fine for me. It's a decent, balanced system.

If you can, give serious consideration to building your own PC. I promise it's not that difficult, but do spend some quality time doing your research beforehand.

A graphicscard with 3gb memory is more then enough. Getting more is just a waste of money for ESO as it runs on the CPU, and not GPU.

Not even close to the truth. This config I bought back in 2011 ran ESO in 1080p just fine:
    - nVidia 560ti GPU
    - core i5 2500k CPU
    - 4 gigabytes of ddr3 RAM, made by a random chinese company i never heard about

Recently I upgraded my GPU to nVidia 970 and added 4 more GBs of RAM, but for the biggest impact to game's performance I'd actually advise you to buy an SSD (say, 60 gigabyte one for just ESO), and run the game from there.

    My PC:
    Core i7 6800K at 4.8GHz
    GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0

    My son:
    Core i7 6700K at 5GHz
    GTX 980Ti SC ACX 2.0

The 6700K is a bit faster as the single-core speed is better than my 12 core. In both machines the GPUs do relatively little as the game is CPU bound, single-core speed is what you need to focus on for this game in particular.

However, ESO is relatively archaic so don't design yourself into a corner re. other games, which are more and more moving to multi-core.

You don't expect the game to load all 50 gigs of its files in the memory at once, do you? What I noticed when i copied my game to the SSD is
    a) much shorter loading screens
    b) complete absense of black characters and low quality geometry/textures pop-in
    c) elimination of microstutters in heavily packed areas

Also, from my experience ESO process doesn't utilise any more than 3.5 GBs of system RAM regardless of how much memory (guildmates tested it with 24 GB RAM rigs) you throw at it.

i guess id like to keep it under 1500 US if possible, i only need it to run ESO, i dont play any other games like for honour or anything.

thanks for the tips guys. got alot to think about. I'm thinking the 1060 is the best bang for buck in terms of GPU and CPU i m thinking a i7 multicore- as much ram as i can afford.

For that you can easily get a system to play eso on ultra. I spent roughly 2500$ and eso doesn't put a dent into my cp's capability.

So if you are only wanting to play on high then you should have 0 problems getting or making a system for under 1500$

If you are spending that much, I'd get 1070 or even should be possible to squeeze in a 1080. Excluding graphics card, all the other components I bought only came out to about $670.

That's due to the game being run from a 32-bit client. Max addressable memory is 3.5GB. Launch manually from eso64.exe in the program folder to use the 64 bit client.

    My PC currently:
    17-6700K @ 4.2ghz
    980 GTX Ti
    16GB ram

If you are looking to not destroy your wallet, my suggestions:
    i5-6600 processor @ 3.5ghz
    1060 GTX graphics
    8gb ram

That sort of set up will be the best bang for your buck hands down. But, if you have more money to spend, put it towards a better processor like i5-7600 or something.

Most graphics cards today can do quite well 60hz 1080p. If you simply must have 144hz or 4k (soon maybe both if you can afford it) then you'll need to start throwing serious cash at the GPU.

^ My setup. I have ESO on highest possible settings, and it runs like a charm. :) My OS and all of my games etc. are installed on a 500GB SSD, don't know how much of a difference that could make performance-wise as opposed to installing on a HDD. Spent about €1000 on above setup last year, incl. case, power supply and cooling.

CPU Intel i5 4670k clocked to 4.4ghz. It's a bit old now, but the newer generations don't perform much better for the $$.
GPU Nvidia GTX 1060 (6GB version)
SSD (this will make things load much faster. The game, areas, etc...it will not necessarily increase your FPS though)
RAM - 16GB Ripjaw 1866. You don't really need 16GB at all, but the set was cheap when I bought it. 8GB is more than enough.

Rendered at 1080p, with everything maxed, I will get a solid 59 FPS (which I have set as a cap in the usersetting.ini file) in nearly all areas. The exceptions will be in very heavily trafficked areas like capital cities (30-40 FPS) and in Cyrodiil (25 FPS at the lowest)

The games rendering performance seems to be tied to network congestion. Sometimes FPS will drop down to 30 FPS because there is a huge fight going on nearby. There is really nothing to be done about this, it's just how the game was made.

Yeah, I'm playing it fine on a i5-2400 PC I built back in 2011 for $800-900. Only thing I've replaced since then was the GPU, with an r7-270X. Not even bothering with any overclocking or crazy cooling systems*. Any current $150-200 GPU would be plenty.

(* I do have a HAF912 case with good airflow, and 2x200mm/1x140mm case fans. But no fancy CPU cooler or anything.)
