But shouldn't there be a gap between new and veteran players?

There is, it is called Skill.

    And CP != Skill.

can someone explain the next patch?
    • Removed cost reduction and resource recovery CP passives COMPLETELY.
    • Nerefed the top 10 damage and defense-related CP passives from max 25% to max 15%.
    • Nerfed cost reduction and recovery on armor by roughly 33%.
    • Nerfed Repentance to no longer restore Stamina to the group.
    • Nerfed Templar shards to now be RNG of restoring Stam or Magic (whichever is lower at the time).
    • Nerfed amount restored by the above.
    • Nerfed amount restored by Magickasteal.
    • Removed Major Mending from Templar (but left it for Warden).
    • Nerfed everything else except Magicka Sorcerer.

Also, consider the things they are NOT adding:
    • No jewelry crafting or improvement.
    • No weapon dying.
    • No ability to re-style gear (even with crowns).
    • No token system for BoP dungeon loot to offset RNG burnout.
    • No change for 2H/Staff to count as 2 set pieces.
    • Frost tanking still a bad joke no one plays that only removes ice as a DPS option.
    • No separate balance for PVE and PVP to avoid amateur "balance by chainsaw" strategies.

This last one is pretty much the entire reason for this update. They would rather rip the toolkit away from devoted Templar healers (while leaving it on the Warden in contradiction to their "we thought it was too strong" excuse) and undo 2 years of progress by the majority of their players, many of whom have been BUYING XP SCROLLS to accomplish that progress, all to avoid having to reinvest the minimal effort to balance PVP and PVE separately.

Yep it was always going to be this way, ever increasing CP would lead to a huge disparity between new and old players, eventually the gap would be too wide and then drastic action would have to be taken to re-balance the difference.

This is what we now see.

But they have added a catch-up mechanic already, ON TOP of Enlightenment. You can grind out your first 160 CP in literally LESS THAN 1 WEEK. Just pay someone to carry you through Skyreach like every other noob out there and you can do it in a matter of DAYS.

There was no problem here related to CP that needed such drastic steps. The problem with new players has ALWAYS been about a lack of proper tutorials resulting in people not knowing how to play their class by the time they queue for group content, which is a problem regardless of how many CP you gift to them.

Reading these patch notes made me realize I won't be buying morrowind on release day. I already cancelled my ESO plus last month which I had for over a year cause of this bs. It basically seems like they are ruining the game for people who actually play a lot. All they do is remove and nerf things. They have never created any new moves for characters. All they do is take stuff away. Now sustain will be horrific and make the game insanely annoying. They already made poisons so you can drain peoples resources. Why the hell does it need a nerf? This is nothing but an extremely lazy attempt to help casual players. This company doesn't deserve your money.

With resource management being more of an issue with Morrowind. I hope the number of dot's, stuns and other similar affects will be curtailed in PvE. As it is now the number of mobs that use this has us purging various things every few seconds, or just heal over them. With less resource regen, we can't be clearing these affects as often and still survive.

Exactly, I won't be buying Morrowind either if they go thru with these nerfs, I've only been playing about 2 months and I'm already cp 524 (I play a lot and have ESO Plus) it's hard enough as it is now to sustain my sorcerer thru vet content if it gets worse with these changes I'll be looking for another MMO to play, as having to fight to sustain just isn't fun game play imo!

It's a nice step for changing cp. hopefully ZOS will continue to make balance off of it. This game requires more desicion choices and skill play.

I agree more balance would have been nice. But this isnt balance. Balance isnt nerfing everything to the ground. Balance would have been implementing a cp tree over one not widely used that negated recovery or cost. Nerfing and removing things and "balancing" vet players isnt a good idea. Its just a slap in the face.

Wish I'd brought some cheese to go with all the whine on here...

Just adapt. The same as you did before all the other buffs and nerfs. The same way you did when you went from Vet to CP. The same way you've done with every change they've introduced over the last three years...

Because if the purpose of this was to lower the ceiling and weed out a lot of the 'elite' players with the best gear and the most refined builds in order to make way for newer or more 'casual' players, then refusing to play anymore is really going to show them what for, eh??

They don't care if you play for 6 hours a day, because your game purchase and sub are worth just as much to them as the guy or gal who puts in an hour a week, and for every one of you they lose, there's another newbie or casual to fill the gap who was put off by getting creamed every time they set foot in PvP or struggling to get a group to run a dungeon with.

Instead of putting all of your effort pleading to ZOS, or making rash demands about how you will or won't 'teach them a lesson', find a way to work with the hand you're dealt. If you really deserve to be 'entitled', then show your skill and prove it.

    Or stop playing, your choice...

No nerfs were universal. The only way to adapt to this is by sitting around heavy attacking. It's obvious that you aren't going to be affected by this because you are one of those casual players that only light attack anyway, otherwise you'd agree. Any competent player knows that this is too much. And if you think that the only thing that affects the effectiveness of a person's character is their build you're just proving my point that you fit into the category of casuals.

    TLDR: I don't care >:)

The future changes are fair, if you don't agree, you probably don't know why...
From my point of view, it will allow a greater build diversity, like hybrids and basic atacks, and will break those ridiculous infinite mega meta skill spamm in Pve and pvp, you will need more player skill instead of dumb "best-skill-spam" in which isn't balanced because a meta build won't be bothered about sustain, nor damage, and that isn't a good or fair game design, and changing your build to adapt to the next patch won't be ridiculous overpriced or hard, even if you want that meta set that X youtuber said is good. The new changes will allow casual players to get fun too, maybe even competitive, and "veteran players" (wow...) will still be powerfull, as he can get advantages from more passives from CP, with the new design, and considering the CP nerf, you will need to plan more what skills to use, and WHEN to use it, without a super rotation of perfection... the less utilized skills will be more viable than it was before and the game will have more diversity, in which is a good thing.
That's just a theory of mine, but in one way or the other, the game, in fact, will be better, for PvP and for PvE, and you won't necessarily need Warden for tanking, healing, nor damaging...

    Sorry for the english! :)
    Glory for the Pact!

While I'm not opposed to some of the changes, I do think they go too far. However, I don't care for all their time going to this kind of thing. If their time was going towards actual content instead of worrying about how people play. Or PvP so much. Morrowind could have been an truly actual expansion of the game instead of a beefed up DLC. Apologist may love this method (but something tells me they'd love the other too), I just don't think its something the population as a whole is clamoring for. Do they really want to do the same content only harder for no gain? I guess so. Who wants new stuff when you can have old difficult stuff.

One thing for sure after I read the notes, I realized nobody is gonna wear light armor anymore, due to the simultaneous impact of the removal of Magician along the nerf to light armor magicka cost reduction. It was paper thin before, now it becomes completely pointless...
"Is it true her wounds healed on their own ? Yes" No s***, at 75% health regen penalty!

I was a vampire like you, but then I took an idea to the head...

Well i already bought the dlc so i am stuck with it, will play the story then prob take a brake from the game.
There seems to be no real progression for mw nothing new for are characters-only things being taken away-
    unless you make a warden.
There are so many things players have been asking for that its pretty underwhelming.

This will only annoy a lot of vet players who have indeed worked their behinds off to get where they are. Meaning it may cause a portion of these players to leave the game.

It will however not attract new players to the game. New players also don't see the disparity until they are already 'hooked' and this is around lvl 20-30 i guess. The difference is probably more down to vet players having gold gear in perfect sets and skill to go with it than the differences cp bring. A new player has a few pieces of blue/green of non-matching sets and less skill which is WAY more that the difference from cp.

net result: some long term players leave, many that remain are annoyed & no 'fix' for new players having bad gear/less skill.

Thing is, there has to be some progression otherwise there is no point in playing. I think ZOS are trying to fix a problem that exists in every MMORPG but is left alone because without that progression the game will not be played. There is quite frankly no point.

This isn't true anymore. The Shards will restore your highest stat and also Luminous Shard morph wil restore both the highest stat and a small portion of the secondary stat. (Source: last ESOlive - coming in 3.0.2.).

Wow, been a while since I've made a post here.

That being said I'm probably about as casual as a person can get. 90% of my time spent in this game is spent RPing these days, the rest spent farming mats and things to sell for muns to get chapters for my crafter.

Now granted I've been here since closed beta, but for roughly the past two years I've barely touched actual content aside from the occasional dungeon or bout of questing to unlock some dye or a house. And even then I'm sitting at 505 CP. I could literally grind out the rest of the CP I need to hit the cap in a week or two if I wanted, maybe even sooner if I pop the exp scrolls or Psijic pots I have (7 of the former and 20 of the latter).

So how is it a filthy RPing casual like me can rack up CP so easily without even trying but apparently ZOS thinks newer players need this hand-holding that completely defeats the purpose of CP in the first place? Yeah I have Enlightenment built up but even before then I could crank out numerous CP a day in IC sewers with a Psijic pot on.

Let's also not forget that what's the point of buffing useless passives? People weren't using them because they have crap effects; increasing the percentage of those crap effects isn't going to make them any better.

There isnt a huge gap. There just is no point to vet everyday players, the ones playing and spending the most, to continue to invest their time. Noone who grinds to 50 in 2 hours and spends another 4 getting skill lines and passives in skyreach should be on the same level as me in battlegrounds. Thats just the nature of MMOs. You want a better character grind it. It LITERALLY takes 2 hours to get to 50. Not much more to 160. 8 hours about if you know what your doing. Its just a slap in the face. Look at the population in azuras star at ANY given day and ANY given time on XB1... it hardly ever gets to one bar and never goes past it. We dont want this, we dont need this and you will lose players and money over this. I hate to see all of these 2 and 3 year players big in the game leave. And there not being replaced. There being treaded for guys who play the game once a week, spend no money in it, and think its okay to try and be a redguard magicka dragonknight healer.

In short, please dont play with the CP. please dont push these changes. And for the love of god activate my CP in battlegrounds and force these weekend warriors and here and there players to do some work or continue to be mopped up. What did i spend over 2500 hours in this game for just for you to take it away?

Hey guess what... they enabled CP in Battlegrounds! Wish granted. ;)
