They've never been able to get chains or toppling charge to work reliably - what makes you think they can get something as complex as this to work first time around. My money is on this being massively broken and either exploitable or simply not working for at least 6 months.

snatching players out of zergs and placing it on siegers to protect them will be fun. Walls, keeps and gates are all protected areas and well lets hope the protection is in place.

That's what a Warden will cast on a Templar when they join the group.

Just put a LOS check on the skill as well as the Z axis restriction then...

Potential exploits aside, I don't think the skill will be that great, I mean it's not like people run around using chains in cyrodiil atm. There are other skills I'd be a lot more worried about tbh.

If you put those restrictions on them then it just turns into a poor man's chains. A warden wouldn't be able to use them as an offensive skill then. You can't pull the enemy around corners, into choke points etc. Putting those checks in will stop the exploits but will also kill the skill.

But that would just put the warden in line with every other eso class where an otherwise really good skill becomes useless or situationally limited due to bugs or restrictions.

Honestly many gap closers took a hit with additional checks that's supposed to stop exploiting. Teleport striking a target running away from you doesn't work half the time, same with targets slightly uphill from you. You cannot streak up stairs or hills. Similarly Dragon Leap can fail and give you the wings on your feet bug due to ground issues.

This is why you see so many stamblades running Crit Charge over Ambush these days. Crit Charge will connect to running targets, but it will occasionally get the macro-slice, which isn't as bad as your gap closer failing, all your attacks hits at once.

My point is ZOS coding messes up game mechanics all the time and they can't help it.

Good news is they will be nerfing the gap closer slows. Yay for mist form.
