Go to one of the shrines and ask for a bite. Many players will do it for free.

Vampire: Find some Bloodfiends out in the world, remove all of your armor so you're nude, then let them attack you, the game should tell you after a time that you've been infected.

Werewolf: I think it's the same story, but with Werewolves? Also I think it can only happen during the night? This one's a little more confusing to me, but the idea is the same, find bad guys, strip nude, let them beat on you until the game says you're infected. Wearing armor defeats the purpose.

Disclaimer, never done this myself. Just heard about it.

Bloodfiends and Werewolves are spread throughout the world map in different zones, off the top of my head you can find Bloodfiends in the center of Eastmarch between two large houses, and you can find many Werewolves in the pre-quest instance of Camlorn in Glenumbra.

Alternatively, there are shrines for Vampires and Werewolves in all three factions, I don't know specifically, so you can just look those up, I'm sure you can google guides and maps for those.

The shrines are in Reaper's March, The Rift, and Bangkorai. Google for the map locations.

This might help if you are wanting to be a vampire.

I'm surprised the usual trolls haven't jumped on here to scream "SEARCH MOAR." They must be away from the forums right now.

I've done this many, many, times.

Both Werewolves and Bloodfiends can spawn at various locations in Bangkorai, The Rift, and Reaper's March. The unique spawns will only appear at night (it will be the same variety in all three zones, on a given night). The spawn timer will trigger at roughly midnight (you can check the time using your compass and the moon's location, since the moons in ESO don't adjust their orbit based on the phase). The infection spawns will disappear at dawn (roughly), or when killed. On a given night, most of the spawn points will be up at one time or another, but you may need to run between them.

Bangkorai has normal, quest related, werewolf spawns in one section of the map, these are not the ones you're looking for, and will remain active at all times.

In theory, being attacked by the infection spawns has a chance for becoming infected, though in my experience, the odds of being infected are nearly 100% on your first attack received. You do not need to strip naked, dance, or fight back. Especially do not fight back, as it's considered poor form, and can potentially deny other players the opportunity to become infected. Yeah, it's weird to think about it that way, but there it is.

Once you've been infected... nothing happens. Or at least, nothing appears to happen. You'll have a new debuff on your character sheet, and that's it. This also triggers an NPC to spawn in the world. Originally, they would spawn in (or just outside of) Riften for Pact players, Evermore for Covenant players, and Rawl'Kha for Dominion players. Since One Tamriel released, it's possible they now spawn at all three locations, though you'll need to travel to your native alliance to complete the quest.

Each quest giver will direct you to a shrine, (there's six total, three for vampires, one in each zone I mentioned above, and three werewolves, same situation). When you reach it, you'll enter an instanced zone, where you are initiated into your new nature.

For Vampires, this is a small dungeon/crypt with enemies. For werewolves, it's Hircine's realm. It's worth noting, these are solo only zones, you cannot bring friends in to help you out if you're having trouble. These also used to be exceedingly difficult for low level players, though that's no longer an issue.

If you're bitten by another player at the shrine you will need to travel to the one in your native alliance, but you won't need to pick up the quest in the zone's capital. You just need to proceed to the shrine and enter the quest instance.

That's it. The hardest part is just waiting for the infection mobs to spawn. This seems to happen roughly once or twice a (real world) week for each. and they remain active for about one to two hours.

It's probably worth noting that, unless something's seriously changed recently, none of those critters can actually infect the player.

I attacked a mob in the rift. At the time I really didn't note that they were werewolves but I got infected. I did the. Quest even though I had no interest in being one just for the achievement. Anyway it didn't cost me anything. So why not.

I give my vamp bite away free every week because it literally fell into my lap one night wandering around Reaper's March in the dark. When I go to the shrines to give it away more often than not there is someone else waiting to give theirs away too. You can try just going to a shrine and hanging out for a while, also try asking in zone chat. It's nice to at least say thank you when someone does this for you, I have people just walk off like nothing even happened and that's a bit rude. Sometimes people will tip which is a nice thing to do, but not necessary.
