Question on Weapon traits and Bar Swapping

Hey, lets say on my front bar i have a sharpened trait but on my back bar i have a defending. I am a Mag Sorc and i have haunting Curse on my bar where my defending trait is. So if i cast it and then weapon swap and the explosion happens now on my front bar where the the staff is with the sharpened trait..... Will i get the extra damage from the sharpened trait or will it calculate the damage on the defending trait staff. Thanks
