I've done the same thing before. It was Blackboot or BM. Hid and captured it back while the opposing alliance was busy at the scroll gates.

Although the flags would not start turning until I pulled out a ballista and started damaging the door. It didn't flag the keep but it seems it needed to be under attack for the flags to start flipping. I'm not sure of the exact mechanics, but it flipped eventually.

yeah I've come close too a few times if it wasn't for an single random player suddenly coming through the door otherwise it's pretty methodical and easily achievable like a big resource tower even easier than a lot of things I can't even do in pve like world bosses and group delves solo
Although I do happen to hide in keeps a lot ,most of the time not on purpose (I'm always doing clean sweeps)

your castle stay ua that's why you can keep it ! did this with another guy in scourge but we needed to put ballistas and trebuchet Serjustin outside help us to put it ua after we took it, many times reds come before and we died ! Nice day !

Try it from the outside. I've only done that once, on a magsorc with a lot of help from Infernal Guardian.
