Hmm... How rare is this? I'm tempted to start farming coa1 if it means a chance to pick this bad boy up. Has anyone else confirmed this or a fluke?

It exists for sure, others have it (as others have mentioned). It's the same amount of RNG as trying to get any other dungeon weapon in sharpened.

Got a charged bsw inferno. Is that good with a fire enchant on it or should still get sharp?

    Why run this?

Most builds are 5 Bsw moster sets. Then IA or moondancer staffs. Vma staff if you have it.

With a bsw staff you just have odd slot to fill with a nonset item....

    Cheers!

BSW has 2/3 uptime (because it has a cooldown) with a perfect rotation using a lot of fire skills: blockade, force pulse, reflective light for Templar, most DK skills. In practice it's about 60%. So you theoretically get about 400 extra spell damage, which is more like 360 spell damage. Julianos gives 300 spell damage and it's up all the time. A difference of only 60 spell damage which is negligible. You probably get ~1K DPS extra from that.

TL:DR 5 minutes at the Boreal Forge are way better than 50 hours farming COA1 for that staff (which may not never drop).

Endgame is all about min/max though, and once you polish your rotation and everything, that 60 extra spell damage becomes considerably more effective. Not to mention that in terms of burst BSW is a lot stronger since it will proc immediately and have double the spell damage, so for short fights Julianos doesn't even come close to it. The only place your example works are for long fights, in which case it's still a 20% increase in spell damage.

Your argument makes sense if people don't want to spend time farming, but farming is the only thing to do until new content arrives and most serious trial guilds are constantly pushing the limits of what is possible, so there's no need to intentionally nerf yourself by going with the lesser choice of gear. Lastly, farming BSW, if you aren't looking for a weapon drop, usually doesn't take more than a few hours.

50 hours?!? Got this on my 6th CoA 1 run since I started looking for BSW.

Ended up getting the necklace yesterday.

    So that's... 8 runs.

I did 300+ runs (around 200 with full group and 100 alone) not 1 sharp inferno BSW staff. That is out of 900 possible last boss drops we got 0, not to mention all the chests opened.

Yep it exists, I got 2 fire sharp/1 sharp lightning farming normal CoA around 75-150 runs. I tried them out, BiS is moondancer staffs. BSW sharp swords I haven't seen yet :(

Ended up getting the necklace yesterday.

    So that's... 8 runs.

The chance of getting a specific weapon with a specific chance from one of the dungeon sets:
    From the end boss: 3 sets x (2 jewelry slots + 8 traits x (shield + 11 types of weapons)) + the named boss drop > 270
    From the chests: 3 sets x (2 jewelry slots + 8 traits x (11 types of weapons + 8 armor slots)) x (chest quality distribution*) > 462

*chests actually have a very low chance of set items unless they are advanced or master

Comparatively the odds of getting an armor piece with the right trait from a specific boss are much higher.

    Minibosses: 3 sets x 4 armor slots x 8 traits + named drop > 96
    Bosses: 3 sets x 3 armor slots x 8 traits + named drop > 72

So it's about 3-6 times easier getting divines armor in any specific slot for a set than getting a sharpened desirable weapon from that set. So your own experience getting that weapon only in a few runs is not indicative or the overall probability of getting it. The maths are stacked against farmers when it comes to weapons unless there's a named drop with a desirable trait. For example Viper sharp weapons are much more common because there's a named greatsword (Debaser) and dagger (Knife of Shadows), but for BSW the named drops have useless types and/or traits.

Note that farming does increase the chances of getting the desired items but asymptotically with the number of runs. So there's diminishing returns in probability for each run, in terms of time spent over additional probability of getting them.

@Saturn As for "having nothing else better to do until the next content comes out" playing time is certainly limited. I have a full time job and can't just blow trough 3-4 hours every evening running the same dungeon over and over again, and having only junk drop. I've come to hate farming with a passion and I almost broke down and quit after being pressed into getting some sets a few months ago. I'm actually at a cusp right now, not certain if I want to play more end game PvE, namely trials, or simply revert to a more casual play style - that's exactly what I did after those farm runs burned me out - or simply go and experience other things in this game. It simply takes way too much effort to improve that extra 1% to consider it worth wile, and for something that looks like a dead end in the long run. And more so when the devs are pretty unsure what to do, and change the "meta" with every patch. So the item you have spent dozens of hours farming faces a risk of becoming bank detritus. I'm actually a practical fellow, and do a cost/benefit analysis for everything. Weapons farming is simply not worth it and above it's the maths why is not worth it. If I happen to get a good weapon during a limited number or runs (ex. running the daily pledges or weekly trial) I will use it in my build, otherwise I will craft around it and simply go on. But in no way obsess over it for that %1 DPS I'm missing.

I am happy for you

I have been farming it on and off quite a bit with a fellow guildy and well...

He farms it aproximately x10-20 a day.

I just do it maybe two or twelve times the nights I do it.

Let's just say no luck yet, but I am not too bothered I just wanted the x5 armour and I have the necklace, rings  from weeks ago already.

I don't disagree with you on that point at all, but I don't think I said 3-4 hours every evening. I spent about 6-7 hours over the course of a few weeks farming out the BSW I needed, and I only play about 4 hours every week currently. But seriously though, there really isn't much else to do than farm if you have completed all the current content and don't feel like levelling a new toon.

@Asardes , one of the big reasons is the synergies involved.

BSW can proc Ilambris. Ilambris can proc BSW...

Julianos is still good, and arguably easier to come by, but the gear is called Best in Slot for a reason.

I've only have one BSW flame staff drop from any CoA ever, and that was defending.

Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

I farmed this for four months, and never saw one.

In that time I saved the money to just buy a Spinner's sharpened inferno staff, and I went with a completely different build. The drop rates in this game are absurd.

Beating your head against a wall hurts. If I were smart I'd pick another game. It feels like the devs are laughing in my face.
