Why mats are being sold so cheap?

Why people are selling mats so cheap? In PC (NA), Tempering Alloy was around 7.5k (like a month ago or so) and it's now being sold for 5.5k (saw that price yesterday several times). Same with Dreugh Wax, that it was like 4.5 or 4k and now I saw it in zone chat for 2.3k. Why this change so quick?

Same with potions, as I was seeing the "Essences of..." for 13k and more and now I'm seeing them for 10k, and even cheaper.

Why is this? Why people keep lowering the prices and so everyone has to lower their prices too to be able to compete?

Selling mats, although still a go, is returning less income than ever for people trying to make some gold, because the other ways are motifs (fortunately many styles still sell expensive) and farming sharpened weapons (but only the ones blessed by the gods of RNG can make gold this way).

Millions of gold getting drops in housing = massive deflation. Homestead created an insanely big gold sink.

All prices have been dropping since then.

More sellers competing to make a sale.

I guess it's time to spend a day visiting all the guild traders for some deals on mats.

Wow just wow, the third anniversary gold boxes followed by hews bane double mats has led to a increase in gold mat inventory. Simple economics high supply stagnant demand leads to decreased prices.

Gross material inflation from people farming Jubilee boxes is my guess.

I've gotten about a dozen gold tempers just from doing crafting writs on alts.

You can get them from the Anniversary Boxes currently given as an extra reward when handing in dailies.
So there's quite a lot of them flooding the market at the moment. ;)

If you're after some mats, now is the time to stock up!

I think you have to ask how long has it been since ZOS introduced new sets, and what's happening to the overall population of the game? Many of the players still playing have their builds figured out, and have their gold sets completed. Trader sales in general are down, IMHO - which leads me to believe that player population has declined. Even with the free play week under-way, I found starter zones last night somewhat quiet.

Demand is down, and so prices will fall.

My guess is more writs being done with this awesome event! And that its free week so a bit more players in the game! But I love. Not quite that cheap on PS4. Not yet tho. 9k for tempers. I bought 50 for 7.5k per couple weeks ago. Now is definitely the time to buy mats. 7.5k for tempers is much better thann paying 20k per.

Think prices will go up any time soon?

It is the nature of commodities to fall in price over time.

The long term price trend for pretty much any renewable commodity is downward.

Occasional spikes may occur due to what are, in effect, aberrant factors (Homesteads etc) - but the long term trend will be down.

Anyone who thinks prices for X or Y are ever going to increase - long term - is in for a big disappointment.

    - more people farming and refining
    - less demand from people upgrading gear
    - probaprobably drop rate stealthily increased as well as I seem to get gold tempers much more frequently during the last months when I refine

Nothing to do with deflation due to Homestead. Supply and demand. Supply is very high, and more people are supplying their own.

Look at new material demands like beetle scuttle. Price is super inflated due to the Throne recipe.

I did notice a slight decrease in Master Writ reward since the update before this Anniversary event. I am not complaining though. These motifs and designs are waaay better at this time. (I can now make Sweetrolls!). But yeah before like every 20 writs I would get one master writ now it seems like I get one 50-60 or so.

It's a combo of things. The last time they skyrocketed was when 30+ new sets were added, but, now people have their sets. Also, there isn't really a huge market for crafted sets either since only a handful are viable. Add in the crafting bag, mine has 10,000+ refined materials, and there just isn't a lot of demand.

Anyway, if you want to prosper you need to diversify your sales portfolio. Motifs sell well, and even though it's not consistent, gold master writs can fetch you hundreds of thousands if it's worth enough vouchers.

    Here's my conspiracy theory:

ZOS is trying to reign in more subscribers. They are flooding the market with lots of high end mats so people don't have anywhere to save it all. This will encourage players to subscribe so they can get the crafting bag and increased bank space with Morrowind.

    Just sayin.

Another contributor was that lots of people farmed up a storm to get the new "rare" furnishing materials. Which means there were more raw mats to refine.

This on xb1 the price has been holding the same for awhile now was dropping like crazy and some ppl in zone chat to push things out real fast will sell for super cheap. Like others said it's housing and no new sets added. There is plenty of other way to make gold now not just gold mats. Housing items for awhile where selling for huge amounts and so where rare motifs but bc of this event even those items dropped in prices.

I'm making a lot of money selling stacks of refined mats tons of people are doing writs bc of the event. You need to find out as soon as possible what is hot and in high demand and sell then it's not always going to be the same item like tempers.

Yep. With housing and master writs more people are doing the writs and more matts are being defined which equates to more gold matts.

With more gold matts the supply gets a bit saturated and so price comes down.

its an all of the above:
    1. After 1T mats tailors from drops to your levels.
    2. After 1T, max drop sets a plenty.
    3. After 1T, less demand for crafted sets.*
    4. After homestead, gold spending into housing using some lesser mats.
    5. For Tg anniversary - double mats for supply.
    6. For 3y anniversary, jubilee boxes.

Except for #3 all are great for the game IMO, even if only transitory.

Meanwhile, other mats have risen in price, due to increased demand from homestead.
