mDK sustain issue

New to world of mDK. Have leveled my first over past couple weeks. Cookie cutter setup: 5xBSW, 3xIA, 2xGrothdar, 1xvMA Inferno Sharpened, 1xvMA Inferno Precise (all I have).

I have used target dummies a couple of times with other toons (talk about a blow to my self esteem), but my experience with them is limited.

Anyway, I step up to the old target dummy with my shiny new mDK and work through a rotation that I found online (seems quite reasonable). By the time I get to the end of my second time (or maybe third), it seems like I am sucking some serious Magicka wind. Pots haven't come off cool down. Ult hasn't regenerated. I'm resorting to heavy attacks to build up some Magicka.

From my previous experience with target dummies, I know that I am going to have to put in time learning this rotation, but the fact that I am running out of resources so quickly has me worried.

Is resource management an issue for mDK, or is this a "me" issue? I suspect it is a me issue.

Any advice you can offer would truly be appreciated. BTW, I don't have anyone casting Ele Drain, RA, or throwing orbs.

Thanks.

Sustaining on a mag dk without support is impossible, unless you run a Heavy Attack build. Ultimates Help, but are not enough..

This will only become worse when Morrowind drops and they change the CP constellations, removing the 16% Cost Reduction and nerfing Regen down to 15%.

    Both

mDK skills are really expensive, sustain is really limited with out sacrificing much for it. Some of it is just going to be getting used to how mDK plays, and adjusting your gameplay for it.

I use the blue eyeball food and apply my own Eli-drain when practicing rotations on my DK. That along with potions should sustain you through a skeleton pretty easily.

    1. Are using ele drain in your rotation? Or having a friend ele drain for you? That will be important - even better if your friend uses Worm's Raiment.

    2. Do you have your alchemy leveled up with the requisite passive taken to maximize the benefit of your potions?

Those 2 things will help you if you're not already using them. Also you need to practice such that you're not overcasting dots ... you have to be super efficient with magdk.

You think it's bad now? After CPs get changed, Mag DK is a dead class.

Ele drain and worm are essential. If you're still having trouble, try witchmothers brew. You may need to swap a glyph to health to make up for the loss of hp from the food.

Bear in mind I'm pve only...

Simple, with or without cp, doesn't matter, use magic returning sets if you like but I'm all crafted and although I use withered hand I don't really need it, it's just cosmetic really

I use flame staff with julianos and withered hand, 5 light 2 heavy, all magic, all damage with shadow stone, magic and health food and about 20k health and 38000 magic, all divines with molag kena helm infused I got from the merchant and every available passive

Step one, always have that little orbiting fireball, can't remember the name as it's so long since I changed the build
Step two, take the igneous weapons one that gives 40percent extra on heavy,
Step three, accept that a fully charged heavy is part of you main skills, you have no option here...

Aoe I use the 8 second fire wall, burning tallons and the inhale that sets targets off balance, by now most mobs outside vet dungeons are dead, if not burning breath will normally finish the job and it's easy to time with inhale as that is quite slow

Burning talons and the healing version of igneous shield will tank through almost anything, if in doubt, swipe the same target like crazy and you ain't dying unless you get one shotted. Absorb magic is also an option. Remember that your only safe up close, if that ain't an option swap talons for dragon blood but only use after you cast igneous

Always start and if possible end each rotation with a full charged heavy, i.e. Hold it till it fires on its own, and yes it does make a diffrence, the damage should average 20 to 30k with gold gear and 600 cp >:)

If anything by some miracle shrugs of that lot then just go, talons, fully charged heavy, and the damage version of whip, don't bother with the one that passive boosts as it's pitiful compared to the raw killing power of the other

Also bear in mind that my reflexes ain't great, being an old codger, a lot of the time I don't get out of red poo as I just don't react fast enough and yet this still got me through almost everything that pve can throw at me, a friend took the same build into a couple of 12 player things and was very happy with it. He said it was tougher than the tank was and he never once ran out of juice even without help from healers

Ultimate wise it's standard of might for killing power but also for even more tankines and the shielding version of leap (just use whichever has the bigger tool tip) mostly cos it's fun :D chuck in meteor if you want a bit more magic.
