Ive heard bad things about this set and hardly ever see anyone using it. I've been having some serious sustain issues on my new stamsorc, and tonight I came across this set for super cheap (amulet, rings, boots, and gloves both in infused all for under 20k) so iv thought I'd try it.

I replaced the jewelry enchants with weapon damage, but the set has bumped me up to 1700-1900 stamina recovery while still sitting at 77% crit chance, 31k stamina, 18k health, and just shy of 3000 weapon damage self buffed. I can finally spam whirling blades almost indefinitely, so where exactly is the hate on this set coming from?

31k stam is really low. You ought to have 35-40k depending on your race, especially with only 3k weapon damage.

The thing is that as soon as you block, boom there goes the five piece. No reason to use something that goes away when you do something as important as block. Also you are using the bad morph of whirlwind, use steel torando and things will die before you run out of stamina.

What other sets are you running with it? And what set did you replace with HV?

I was using ravager before. I'm running hunding's rage and storm fist with it right now.

I get that blocking will stop stamina reduction, but on a dps character you aren't really blocking all that much

Hircine's Veneer it's trash for a couple of reasons.
    1) Vicious Serpent (formerly Vicious Ophidian) is much better because it gives yourself 8% stamina cost reduction, which is way better than 10% stamina recovery. Additionally, VO gives 5% bonus damage against dungeon and trial monsters (minor slayer) and most importantly it gives stamina back from every kill.
    2) Theoretically it would be useful in a trial group where you have a plurality of stamina DDs, which isn't the case and never was - it's much more efficient to run with magicka DDs due to higher DPS and survivability; PvP utility is lackluster as well, since everyone there already uses high recovery builds.

P.S. Who on Nirn would use Whirling Blades instead of Steel Tornado? If you have sustain issues you can just wind a heavy attack every Steel Tornado cast and sustain that meat grinder forever even with < 1K stamina recovery.

Hm... I just didn't see the benefit of increased range vs reduced cost and stam recovery. I'll swap it and see how the other morph does.

Obviously the goal would be to get VO eventually, but I don't have it yet so I'm stuck with dungeon sets, crafted gear, and what I can afford off guild traders.

You don't need it golded. Craglorn trials in normal mode are quite easy, and the zone chat in Craglorn is full or "LFM/LFG nAA/nSO/nHRC" so people PuG that quite a lot. Even blue VO is way better than Hircine's Veneer since the % bonuses ar the same. If you want some stopgap set that gives you a lot of recovery you can just get crafted 4 pieces of Eternal Hunt and use mismatched monster set pieces 1 Stormfist + 1 Bloodspawn to stack even more. But IMO anything more than 1.5K recovery is just wasted in PvE. If you are already running with 1.7-19K and still have issues it's not the gear, but your rotation. As stamina sorcerer it's recommended to weave heavy attacks from time to time because bound armaments boosts those by 11% while it's toggled, in addition to giving you 8% more stamina. Heavy attack are quite easy to wind up together with skills that have a cast time, for example Rapid Strikes and even with those that are instant, like Steel Tornado, though they will be delayed a bit. I have just 0.7K stamina recovery on my Stamina DK and I can sustain basically forever if I weave heavy attack with every skill. And I can pull ~23K with just crafted gear, with no proc sets and the healing morphs.

OP, if you have Ravager Jewelry that gives you health you might consider putting that on... Normally I would shy away from health mods, but for Stam Sorc your best skill is Dark Deal which gives you a bigger pool of stam and heals you more when your health is increased. It is VERY broken but for Stam Sorcs it is really the most amazing skill... This way you can get away with horrible recovery because you are basically able to dark deal your way to glory. My Stam Sorc's recovery is 600 but I never run out of stam unless I am very careless and don't mind my line of sight when zergs are approaching. I think you'll find a lot of fun playing stam sorc until they nerf it! Enjoy!

31k stamina is not really low. If 35k is okay then 31k just cannot be really low. 25k starts to be really low, but with 31k stamina you can manage just fine.

It might not be really low in your eyes but that is 4000-6000 stam he is missing that would make every ability he has hit harder, there for require less regen cause things are dead faster.i have a Stam toon in each class and the lowest is my stamsorc, who has 34k without bound armor. 37k with, simply cause I am cheap and use toothrow for major savagery, both my stamblade and stamplar have almost 40k stam.

Again, 31k is really low for only 3k weapon damage, I have seen builds that have 30k Stam but like 5-6k weapon damage.

You can stack about 4.5K weapon damage trough self buffs and maybe 5K with group buffs like SPC and PA together. But more than that is not achievable outside PvP.
