Anniversary Event: Trading Motifs (Rant)

I am doing a lot of dailies during the anniversary event in hopes of completing many motif books that I am still missing. I have received a lot of duplicates in the process, and I have been pushing to trade them with anyone else willing to help both parties complete their books. This seems like a pretty basic and fair concept right?

Not according to some. Twice I have run into players that are demanded additional compensation for a trade, because of the "value" of the motifs they're offering are higher. First time was someone asking for an additional 5k gold, the second wanted three of my motifs for two of his... Isn't the value all messed up during this event? It's kind of impossible to determine accurate value right now on any motif that drops in this event. I find it disgusting that some players are still so greedy when the majority of the players are just trying to complete their motif books before the event is over.

Some things are worth more than others. Even during this event. An Akaviri chest motif is still worth more than Mercenary swords. That's just the way it is. If you have specific examples of the trades you were trying to do, we might be able to offer more insight.

    This is why traders exist.

Selling them outside of traders is just well......it can be frustrating.

As for the people demanding extra gold, they should just stop and deal with the fact they didnt ask for the right price.

It would be like a store telling you "this is the price <insert here>" then you saying "Okay ill pay that" and then later you come back for something else but then the store says to you "you owe us more! what we sold was worth more!", you are then under no obligation to pay that extra gold because you already brought it. So anyone asking for additional gold in compensation is just plain stupid. They should of done multiple price checks before selling.

Its because of endgame. really, even though the voucher prices have dropped. The want for vouchers (still people furnishing for the first time and such) is still there and it means that a lot of people are still buying master writs, end game mats, end game gear and so forth. Expensive breeds greed, fact of life. If its expensive and you want it more than anything in the world you will do whatever you have to say whatever you have to so you can get it. Unfortunate truth of the human brain, even in a game.

    Most players are just greedy.
My favorite is guildmates wanting to charge for dungeon or raid drops on non super rare items like motifs or common jewelry.

I've had some players try to charge for dropped items in dungeons. I laugh at them and refuse. Worse thing to do in that situation is to feed that behavior, so they'll continue to try it on others. It's way better to have that item be deconstructed that to enable greed to flourish.

Even within a style the motifs for the various pieces can vary by a great amount, sometimes double. Of course from one style to the next prices can vary significantly.

That's just silly. If it's a motif within the same style, it should be a 1-1 trade.

If I needed waxes and the other party needed alloys, then yes I would do that trade. Just not with you or anyone else that is so obsessed with greed on a virtual currency that they cannot be decent human beings.

One for one or they can do one. I usually do dailies in a group and we just give them out to the person that needs them for free. The ones left over are then shared according to value for us to sell in guilds. The lower priced ones such as the faction, outlaw etc motifs get put in the guild bank or offered out in guild chat.

Too many people willing to take, take, take and not give a damn thing in this game. Screw them, there's plenty of other people who are happy to see these motifs for what they are.

As for waxes/rosins for alloys, yeah, I do that too regularly. 'Tis but a game. If i need a wax more than I need an alloy, then those waxes I'm getting are more valuable to me. Talking of which, on PS4 EU, waxes are currently around the same price as alloys anyway. they shot up after the housing update.

One guild I am in is planning on having an event after this festival. We are going to tour each others homes and trade motifs. Another guild I am in people are always trying to work out trades or sales in Discord. One of the main crafters has a list of what he needs and some of us keep that in mind so we don't put one he might need in the trader.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Luckily I have not had any issues trading lately. Met a lovely player that has been giving me a bunch of motifs I need, in exchange for anything of equal value basically. I've given him a ton of duplicate blue housing recipes and other motif pages.

I did get someone offering to sell me something when I put in zone "WTT". It's rather annoying when people whisper with something they have and are trying to sell it at prices way above what I've seen in guild stores. I'll let those people in on a secret, when I want to buy it, I'll just get it from a guild trader. Thank you.

Zone is often the worst place to buy anything. While some sell at legitimate prices others try to sell well above the normal price to take advantage of someone not in the know.

I have found that to be completely true. What is the absolute worst though is when the player doesn't list a price, and ask for a "pst", then they won't accept anything unless it is several times the value.

I agree with those who say that not all pages in a motif are equal in value. In particular, some weapon types are used more than others.

Yet I don't think that was at play in the OP's incident. He was dealing with someone who is trying to maximize his return, trying to leverage how much you want the page.
