Morrowind CLOSED PTS Announced!

" We're just two months away from the launch of The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind, and we're hard at work polishing ESO's new chapter! Read on to learn the details about ESO: Morrowind on our Public Test Server.

We're excited to announce that The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind is coming to our Public Test Server in just a couple weeks! However, this time we're doing things a bit differently, and we will be holding a closed beta for ESO: Morrowind. While everyone will be able to help test the base game content on the PTS, any content included in ESO: Morrowind will be invite-only. In addition, everyone logging onto the PTS will be required to agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) upon login. "


I'm actually very happy this is a closed PTS, so everything won't be spoiled for us for the launch in June. Better build-up that way from a marketing perspective! BUT, Patch Notes and Base Game Patch will be available for the public!

I imagine there's no chance I'll get picked as I've never participated in a closed ESO Beta before (Other than the original beta)

Because an open PTS will spoil all the good stuff.

Yes, to quote the article

participation in previous PTS cycles is a major factor when choosing invitees for this and future ZOS beta events.

I was wondering if they were going to actually have this be an open beta, being that it is an expansion. I know I said in the past, why wouldn't they make it an open beta, but the more I thought about it the more I can see where it would interfere with the marketing plans. Not that I really agree with this, but I can see why they are going this route.

They could apply the patch to the base game, and let us test it there without having Morrowind being a part of it.

I know ur being silly so I won't tag you, however, they talk about PTS as their means of gathering feedback. Heck they even said Morrowind would be on PTS.....now they're saying it's only by invite

Closed betas as a rule are more effective than open betas. A closed beta will usually only include players who care enough about the game to keep a keen eye on details, and will report much more often than the average player in an open beta.

So while I may not get chosen for this closed beta, I'm cool with it. I'd much rather the more numbers-experienced players get in there and do some good, quality beta-testing, and make the finished product better for the rest of us.

I guessed as much and I am fine with this, the only way they were going to keep anything a surprise or secret is to either not PTS or do a closed PTS with NDA.

I can't wait for the rages over "select few" not being the person posting.

Likely to avoid people from playing the beta purely to enjoy the content. What they want are actual testers, who discovered and log various bugs.

I've worked on several large projects with open betas, and you'd be amazed by how many testers simply play the content without actually doing any of the important testing work.

@MarkusLiberty That is what they are doing... but BGs are not a base game thing. They are a Morrowind Chapter thing.

I kind od like the idea of a closed beta, with people working on the game and not on their builds

I think this is a good way of doing it. They'll get people who want to test the content and report the bugs rather than those who want to just play it, and it'll stop all the content details being everywhere, so people can enjoy the story without it being already out there.

I was looking forward to test the new trial and how tanking will work next patch . Even though I won't have the chance to test myself , I rather prefer closed beta and getting few groups there who know what they do and give decent feedback instead of everyone going there and devs getting lots of feedback from every single mouth .

Here is my issue with a closed beta, from the point of a PVE trial player. VMOL was a complete and total disaster at launch. That is the nicest way I can put it. If you are on xbox, it's still a complete and total disaster. We need serious testing of the new trial before it hits live. The only way you will accomplish that is to let raid groups in their entirety have access to it.

I wish it wasnt the case, but there is too much salt on most servers among the top tier groups. I dont see 2-3 people (who get picked for the beta) from 5 different guilds on the same server magically getting together to test this trial like it needs testing. If they want to keep the quest and story line closed form a spoiler standpoint, fine. I am not too worried about some quest bug going live. What I am worried about is this trial being released anywhere near the state of VMOL.

It might be self serving, but I would give anyone with a VMOL HM completion access to the new trial at a minimum. That would ensure that you have 4-5 groups on each server putting the trial through its paces. I would also do the same thing with battlegrounds to ensure you have high end PVPers (of which I am not one) testing those as well. No need to give everyone access to everything. Sypher and Fengrush arent going to give the new trial the testing it needs, and the same can be said about guilds like Hodor in regards to battlegrounds.
