Toggling Ultimate Causes Summoned Pet to Despawn - Normal?

Brand new to the game so apologies if the answer to my question is obvious.

Toggling on my 'Ultimate' ability (Energy Overload) causes my 'Winged Twilight' pet to immediately despawn. Conversely, however, toggling on Energy Overload doesn't cause my 'Unstable Clanfear' pet to vanish. Is this normal and intentional?

Any help and advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance!

Totally intentional and I can help you out!

You will notice when you toggle your overload ultimate on, your skill bar switches. This is kind of a secret 3rd skill bar. When you first use it the skills default to whatever you had on your main bar I believe. The reason one of your pets is disappearing is because that pet is not on the special overload skill bar, but obviously the pet that doesn't disappear, IS on that skill bar.

To change that 3rd skill bar, charge up your ultimate enough to use overload. Activate your ultimate. No need to rush, if you do not do any light/heavy attacks etc. your ultimate will not deplete. With your overload ultimate activated, open up your skills menu and ensure you have both pets on that bar, as well as whatever other skills you want to have available while using your overload ultimate.

Keep in mind you cannot have weapon skills on that bar, since you are not wielding a weapon while in overload mode.

Having "a secret 3rd skill bar" (as you very accurately describe it) is a rather strange/obscure mechanic and I reckon that it would have taken me a very long time it figure it out myself. More likely I would probably have given up trying to use my Winged Twilight altogether thinking that it was intended to despawn when I toggled my Ultimate on.
